About the Finance Function:
By joining the Finance team within the Global Capability Centre (GCC), you will play a direct role in supporting Officeworks growth and performance. You'll contribute to high quality financial capabilities that sit at the heart of how the business plans, invests, governs, and delivers value.

Why this role exists:
The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial records through the maintenance of the fixed asset register and supporting the broader finance team during critical reporting periods. As Officeworks continues to invest in its store network and digital infrastructure, this role solves the problem of accurate capital tracking and month-end efficiency. This role provides technical accounting support and commercial analysis across multiple entities, while driving process improvements within a high-performing finance function.

In this role you will:
Fixed Asset & Capital Management:
- Maintain the fixed asset register by processing additions, disposals, and depreciation in accordance with the Officeworks Fixed Asset Policy.
- Manage end-to-end capital expenditure (CAPEX), including budgeting support, tracking against approved spend, and ensuring accurate capitalization in line with accounting standards and company policy.
- Oversee CAPEX for new and closed projects/stores, ensuring timely capitalization, closure of project accounts, and accurate transfer or disposal of assets.
- Oversee capital projects in work-in-progress (WIP) accounts, liaising with stakeholders to resolve aged items, monitor project progress, and manage SAP project codes.
- Coordinate monthly fixed asset counts across all stores and reconcile results to the asset register, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Prepare and manage balance sheet reconciliations for fixed asset and CAPEX-related accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of reconciling items.
- Analyze depreciation and CAPEX-related expenses, providing clear explanations for variances against budget and forecast.
Financial Reporting & Ledger Integrity:
- Execute month-end processes including journal entries, data uploads, and interface processing for the general ledger.
- Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations monthly to ensure the integrity of the Reconciliation and Task controls.
- Post mass reversals and running allocations within SAP to maintain accurate ledger environments.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis:
- Prepare budget and forecast for depreciation expense and non-operational expenditure.
- Manage non-operational expenditure accounts and associated accruals, following up on invoices with key stakeholders.
- Perform variance analysis comparing actuals to budget, forecast, and prior years to drive informed recommendations.
Process Improvement & Safety:
- Challenge status quo processes and seek system improvements in the Finance function to enhance operational outcomes.
- Put safety at the centre of everything by participating in safety discussions, identifying hazards, and reporting incidents.

- External Partners: Auditors (internal & external), and external suppliers/providers.

- Data Accuracy: Zero material errors in the fixed asset register and timely reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
- Reporting Timeliness: Reconciliations and month-end tasks completed within set deadlines.
- Commercial Insight: High-quality variance analysis that enables stakeholders to understand cost drivers.
- Continuous Improvement: Evidence of process enhancements implemented to reduce manual data manipulation

Qualifications and work experience:
Essential:
- Education: Currently studying towards a CPA or CA qualification.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in financial accounting related roles.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel) and experience with large ERP systems.
- Core Competencies: Strong attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to simplify complex data for diverse stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Retail Experience: Experience in the retail industry is highly desirable.
- Systems Knowledge: Previous experience with SAP, BW, NetSuite or Blackline.
