About the Finance Function:
By joining the Finance team within the Global Capability Centre (GCC), you will play a direct role in supporting Officeworks growth and performance. You'll contribute to high quality financial capabilities that sit at the heart of how the business plans, invests, governs, and delivers value.
The GCC is a critical enabler of Officeworks purpose by ensuring strong financial stewardship, insight driven decision making, and operational discipline that supports sustainable success.

Why this role exists:
The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial records through the maintenance of the fixed asset register and supporting the broader finance team during critical reporting periods. As Officeworks continues to invest in its store network and digital infrastructure, this role solves the problem of accurate capital tracking and month-end efficiency. This role provides technical accounting support and commercial analysis across multiple entities, while driving process improvements within a high-performing finance function.

In this role you will:
Financial Accounting & Reporting:
- Execute the end-to-end month-end closing process for the Box of Books ledger, ensuring timely and accurate entry of all financial data.
- Deliver accurate monthly results in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and ensure the integrity of reporting processes with strong focus on revenue recognition adjustments.
- Perform detailed variance analysis of actuals versus forecast to explain drivers of financial performance and provide actionable recommendations.
- Manage the intercompany reconciliation process, ensuring all balances are matched and eliminated.
- Management of other banking related tasks including school rebates and refunds.
Governance, Risk & Compliance:
- Oversee the integrity of month-end controls, including the preparation and review of complex balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare draft statutory financial statements and supporting workpapers for half-year and year-end audits.
- Maintain the internal control framework to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with Trade Practices Laws and Wesfarmers Group policies.
- Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, providing clear documentation and evidence for samples.
- Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) on a monthly basis as part of monthly tax submissions to the Australia Taxation Office
Accounts Receivable/Payable functions:
- Management of customer accounts including set-up, invoicing and credits
- Reconciliation of receipts from customers include allocation and reconciliation of school vouchers
- Review of payments batch in accordance with Delegation of Authority.
Process Improvement & Systems:
- Drive continuous improvement in financial systems and processes to reduce manual intervention and reporting lead times.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities within month-end workpapers to enhance efficiency and assist the business in scaling.
- Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all key financial accounting tasks.
- Support finance transformation projects and ERP upgrades as a subject matter expert on accounting workflows.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Act as a point of contact between various stakeholders, including finance teams, IT, leadership, and external consultants.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders at all levels to enhance commercial understanding and drive improvement.

- Reporting Timeliness: Reconciliations and month-end tasks completed within set deadlines.
- Commercial Insight: High-quality variance analysis that enables stakeholders to understand cost drivers.
- Continuous Improvement: Evidence of process enhancements implemented to reduce manual data manipulation

Qualifications and work experience:
Essential:
- Education: Currently studying towards a CPA or CA qualification.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in financial accounting related roles.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel) and experience with large ERP systems.
- Core Competencies: Strong attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to simplify complex data for diverse stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Retail Experience: Experience in the retail industry is highly desirable.
- Systems Knowledge: Previous experience with SAP, BW, NetSuite or Blackline.
