Job Description

We are seeking a skilled AS/400 Programmer with 4 to 5 years of experience to develop, maintain, and support applications on the IBM AS/400 (IBM i) platform. The candidate will work closely with business and technical teams to deliver efficient and reliable solutions that support core business functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and maintain applications on the IBM AS/400 platform using RPG, CL, and other related languages.
  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and programs.
  • Enhance existing applications and optimize code for performance improvements.
  • Debug and resolve issues reported in production and development environments.
  • Work with DB2/400 database, write efficient SQL queries and manage data access.
  • Participate in system design, code reviews, and technical documentation preparation.
  • Support batch and online applications, ensuring timely processing and data integrity.
  • Collaborate with other developers, business analysts, and users to ensure seamless application functionality.
  • Assist in migration and modernization efforts of legacy systems, where applicable.
  • Provide production support and troubleshoot technical issues.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 4 to 5 years of experience programming on IBM AS/400 (IBM i) platform.
  • Strong expertise in RPG (ILE RPG), CL programming, and DDS for screen and report design.
  • Good understanding of DB2/400 database and proficiency in SQL.
  • Familiarity with batch processing, job scheduling, and spool file handling.
  • Experience with debugging and performance tuning of AS/400 applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Good communication skills to interact with technical teams and business users.

Preferred Skills (Good to Have):

  • Experience with SQLRPGLE and ILE programming concepts.
  • Knowledge of integrating AS/400 systems with modern technologies (APIs, web services).
  • Exposure to modernization tools or techniques (like Synon, Java integration).
  • Experience in Agile or Scrum methodologies.
