Airbag Design & Development

Role:

• Perform detailed lay outing and packaging studies to ensure proper integration of airbag modules into the vehicle architecture.
• Create and maintain technical drawings and specifications.
• Understand and apply global regulatory standards (FMVSS, ECE R94/R95, etc.) and NCAP protocols (e.g., BNCAP, Euro NCAP) for airbag systems.
• Knowledge of airbag technologies (frontal, side, curtain, knee airbags).

Strong understanding of crash dynamics and occupant safety.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct Layout and feasibility study for new vehicle models.
• Cost & Weight monitoring at Part & Sub-System level.
• Countermeasure planning, as necessary, based on Design/ Quality Reviews, Line Feedback & Testing.
• Coordination with business partners for development of parts.
• Evaluate and improve airbag system designs to meet crash performance targets.
• Conduct technical reviews with suppliers to validate designs and specifications.

Technical/ Functional:

Possess a strong understanding of airbag system components, including inflators, cushions, sensors, and wiring harnesses.

Analyze test data to refine system design and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Develop and execute Design Validation Plans (DVP&R) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)

Collaborate with airbag and inflator suppliers to evaluate and approve new technologies.

Validate system performance against regulatory standards (FMVSS, ECE, NCAP).

Ensure airbag systems meet global safety regulations and internal performance specifications.

Stay updated on changes in safety standards and integrate them into design practices.

Hands on experience on CAD Modeling software, preferably Unigraphics.
