1) Job Purpose

This role is responsible for ensuring the provision of high-quality medical care and occupational health services to employees, contractors, and local communities within the designated area. The incumbent should collaborate with cross-functional departments to promote employee well-being, prevent health risks, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations

The Bauxite Mines of Hindalco Industries Limited comprises of 22 mines in the Lohardaga, Netarhat and Samri cluster across the states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh in the Chota Nagpur plateau. Bauxite is supplied to aluminium refineries at Muri, Renukoot and sometimes Belgaum through train from any of the 5 railway sidings at Lohardaga, Tori, Meral, Richughuta and Barki Chapi (Hasel).

HIL places a strong emphasis on the health and safety regulations to ensure the well-being of employees and workmen in sidings. Owing to the remote locations of the sidings and the occupational hazards associated with working in them, the responsibility of the Medical Officer is of paramount importance. The medical infrastructural facility is constantly being improved to cater to the requirements and needs in the siding and the presence of well-equipped Ambulance 24x7 is a testament to the importance that the organization places on the well-being of its employees and workmen.

This role operates within a dynamic and challenging environment, serving as a key advocate for health-related matters, emergency preparedness, and medical infrastructure development.

  • Offering medical services with minimum resources in remote areas
  • Issues of building trust among illiterate local communities
  • Risk of insurgency in tribal areas
  • Lack of medical infrastructure in siding to provide better health services to people

3) Key Result Areas/Accountabilities:

Supporting Actions

Occupational Health and Safety

  • 100% medical check-up of all employees like management cadre, LMS, and workmen
  • Collaborate with the safety department to identify and mitigate occupational risks, conducting health assessments and medical examinations as required

Health Trend Analysis

  • Analyzing the trend of health among workmen after check-up

OPD (Outpatient Door)

  • Responsible for checking patients from the local community at scheduled time periods in morning as well as evening every day except when on leave/not available

Medical Camp

  • Organize medical camps in villages nearby Mines or siding to treat patients of the local community

Documentation of Medical Records

  • Document all medical records of workmen and upload on PAHAL
  • Upload all medical records on matters related to First Aid, Emergency Medical Care, Diseases like Malaria, TB, and HIV, etc., on ENABLON

Cost Control of Medicines

  • Distribution of medicines minimum 3 days every week and use of broad-spectrum antibiotic
  • Verify stock of medicines on scheduled time period

Medical Project

  • Undertake medical projects under the supervision of CMO like Anaemia Control, Malnutrition, TB, Malaria, and other water borne diseases in nearby villages

Bio-Medical Waste Disposal

  • Ensure filing of annual return to the government authorities
