Role: Additive Manufacturing Engineer
- Location: Bengaluru, India
- Experience: 3 – 6 Years
- Employment Type: Full-Time | Permanent
About the Company We are a fast-growing, innovative startup developing cutting-edge Electric Vehicle (EV) charging solutions. As we scale our hardware capabilities, we are looking for a hands-on Additive Manufacturing expert to lead our in-house rapid prototyping lab and support production tooling needs.
The Role As an
Additive Manufacturing Engineer, you will be the owner of our internal 3D printing facility. You will manage a fleet of FDM and SLA printers, ensuring high uptime and professional-grade output. This is a technical, hands-on role that bridges the gap between digital R&D designs and physical, functional prototypes.
Key Responsibilities- Lab & Fleet Management
- Operate and maintain a fleet of FDM and SLA 3D printers, ensuring $geq$90% uptime.
- Perform all mechanical repairs (belt tensioning, nozzle changes, extruder assembly) and electronic troubleshooting (sensors, heaters, connectivity).
- Maintain spare parts inventory and track machine performance metrics (MTBF/MTTR).
- Slicing & Process Optimization
- Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in Orca Slicer (deep knowledge of all advanced parameters).
- Optimize slicing strategies for support generation, part orientation (strength vs. finish), and multi-part nesting.
- Prepare and repair STL files to ensure first-time-right print success.
- Material Science & Calibration
- Qualify and develop optimized print profiles for various materials:
- FDM: PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, Carbon Fiber (CF), and Glass Fiber (GF) composites.
- SLA: Standard, Tough, Flexible, and High-Temp resins.
- Execute rigorous calibration schedules for dimensional accuracy and flow rate tuning.
- Post-Processing & Quality
- Perform high-quality finishing: sanding, vapor smoothing, painting, and installing heat-set inserts or thread tapping.
- Validate dimensions using precision tools (calipers, micrometers) to ensure prototypes meet functional tolerances.
- Documentation
- Build and maintain a technical Internal Wiki (Confluence/Word) for SOPs, material profiles, and maintenance logs.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: B.E / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.
- Experience: 3 – 6 years in a rapid prototyping lab or production 3D printing environment.
- Printer Expertise: Proven experience with Large Format FDM ($geq$400mm) and SLA technology.
- Software Mastery: Expert knowledge of Orca Slicer is mandatory. Proficiency in Cura or PrusaSlicer is a plus.
- Hands-on Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude for machine repair and post-processing (finishing/assembly).
- Documentation: Ability to create structured, searchable technical reports and SOPs.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in the EV or Automotive industry (specifically IP-rated enclosures).
- Basic knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks/Fusion 360) for mesh repair.
- Understanding of DFAM (Design for Additive Manufacturing) principles.
Why Join Us
- Ownership: You won't just run machines; you will design the systems and processes that run the lab.
- Innovation: Work with advanced composite materials (Carbon Fiber/Glass Fiber) to build real-world EV hardware.
- Growth: Be part of a high-energy startup environment where your contribution directly impacts product speed-to-market.
