Voya is currently seeking an Accounting Policy Lead or Manager with technical accounting expertise and the ability to research and interpret complex accounting issues within a SOX-compliant environment. This role is responsible for providing leadership in technical accounting, collaborating cross-functionally, developing and implementing policies, and fostering process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Monitor, interpret, and implement new accounting standards under US GAAP, Statutory, and other relevant frameworks.
- Conduct research, analysis, and documentation regarding accounting treatment for complex or unusual transactions.
- Draft, update, and maintain internal technical accounting policies to ensure adherence to current standards.
- Serve as an advisor to internal business partners, including Finance, Legal, Actuarial, and Investment, on technical accounting matters and the implications of business decisions.
- Liaise and coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure compliance and resolve technical issues.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate accounting policies to align with evolving standards and best practices.
- Oversee the drafting and review of 10-K and 10-Q disclosures, focusing on significant accounting policies and newly issued standards.
- Create and deliver technical communications, educational materials, and training sessions for the finance organisation and executive leadership.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to staff and business partners regarding new and emerging accounting and reporting issues.
- Identify opportunities to enhance accounting policy, reporting, and controls through process improvements.
- Lead or actively participate in projects aimed at increasing operational efficiency and improving risk assessment accuracy.
- Conduct peer research to ensure that accounting policies are consistent with industry standards and regulatory expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or Chartered Accountant designation is required.
- 5-8 years of progressive technical accounting experience, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
- Big 4 accounting firm experience is preferred.
- Experience in US GAAP and Statutory accounting rules; familiarity with asset management, investment funds, or regulated reporting environments is beneficial.
- Demonstrated strong communication and partnership abilities, with a proven capacity to collaborate across departments.
- Experience in documenting and implementing technical accounting topics.
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with SOX controls, pertinent accounting transactions and implementations.
