Job Description

A chartered accountant (CA) is a certified professional accountant who works with a variety of financial matters for an organization. Their responsibilities include:

  • Financial reporting Preparing financial statements, including monthly and annual accounts, balance sheets, and profit and loss accounts
  • Tax planning Advising clients on tax planning and tax issues, and preparing income tax returns
  • Auditing Conducting financial audits, both internally and externally, and reviewing tax forms
  • Financial advice Providing financial advice to clients, including on business transactions and insolvency
  • Risk assessment Reviewing a company's systems and analyzing risk, and devising solutions to manage risks
  • Financial compliance Ensuring financial compliance with laws and regulatory standards
  • Forensic accounting Detecting and preventing fraud, and conducting forensic accounting investigations
  • Accounting systems Implementing accounting systems and financial practices, and evaluating accounting systems for improvements
  • Management Managing junior colleagues and overseeing the rest of the accounting team

CAs can work in a variety of organizations, including banks, investment brokerages, corporations, charities, hospitals, educational institutions, and private practice firms.
