The Junior/Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for maintaining the financial records of a multi-entity family office with exposure to complex investment structures including Portfolio Management Services (PMS), Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs), and Private Equity / Venture Capital (PE/VC) funds. The role demands precision, discretion, and the ability to navigate the accounting nuances of sophisticated financial instruments alongside day-to-day operations.Key Responsibilities
Role 1
General Ledger & Core Bookkeeping- Maintain and update general ledger accounts across all family office entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency of all entries.
- Record daily financial transactions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and inter-entity transfers with appropriate narration and cost-centre tagging.
- Prepare journal entries and manage month-end and year-end closing processes including accruals, provisions, and reclassifications.
- Process vendor invoices, verify accuracy against contracts and purchase orders, and ensure timely, authorised disbursements.
- Maintain systematic documentation of all invoices, payment records, and correspondence in both physical and digital filing systems.
Investment & Instrument-Level Accounting- Record and reconcile transactions arising from PMS accounts, including booking of capital gains (short-term and long-term), dividend income, management fees, and performance fees at the portfolio level.
- Maintain accurate accounting for AIF investments (Category I, II, and III), including capital calls, drawdowns, distributions, carried interest accruals, and unrealised gain/loss entries basis NAV statements received from fund administrators.
- Account for PE/VC fund commitments, track unfunded commitments, and record distributions received whether in the form of proceeds, return of capital, or in-specie transfers.
- Reconcile investment statements received from custodians, brokers, PMS managers, and AIF administrators against internal books on a monthly basis escalate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Maintain unit/share registers for unlisted investments, including shareholding tables and cap table updates for direct PE/VC investments.
- Process and account for corporate actions including rights issues, bonus shares, buybacks, stock splits, mergers, and demergers across listed and unlisted holdings.
- Track and record withholding tax (TDS) deducted at source on dividends, interest, and redemptions, and assist in preparation of TDS reconciliation and Form 26AS matching.
Qualifications & Experience
- CA (Chartered Accountant) qualified or CA Inter with 4-6 years of relevant experience candidates with a B.Com or M.Com background with strong accounting credentials will also be considered.
- Prior experience in a family office, wealth management firm
- Hands-on exposure to accounting for investment instruments including mutual funds, PMS, AIFs, bonds, and/or direct equity portfolios.
- Working knowledge of Indian tax and regulatory framework
- Proficiency in accounting software
- High proficiency in MS Excel for reconciliation, data analysis, and financial modelling.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously with minimal supervision.
- Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential financial information pertaining to the family's wealth.
Role 2
Financial Reporting & Analysis- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for each entity within the family office structure, including consolidated views where required.
- Assist in preparation of a consolidated investment portfolio report, aggregating positions across PMS, AIFs, direct equities, fixed income, real estate, and alternative assets.
- Prepare management accounts including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements with appropriate commentary on movements and variances.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, escrow accounts, and investment custody accounts on a regular basis.
- Track and report variances between actual income and expenditure versus budget, and flag material deviations with supporting analysis.
Compliance, Audit & Regulatory Support- Assist in preparation of statutory financial statements and liaise with external auditors during statutory and tax audits ensure timely provision of schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation.
- Support compliance filings including GST returns, TDS returns, advance tax computations, and annual income tax disclosures pertaining to investment income across instruments.
- Maintain proper audit trails for all financial entries and ensure documentation standards meet regulatory and internal governance requirements.
- Assist in FEMA / LRS compliance tracking for overseas investments, including documentation for Liberalised Remittance Scheme transactions and reporting under Foreign Assets Schedule in ITR.
Process Improvement & Systems- Maintain and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all accounting workflows, with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and scalability as the portfolio grows.
- Identify opportunities to automate reconciliation, reporting, and data extraction processes, particularly for high-volume transaction types such as PMS and AIF activity.
- Coordinate with technology and operations teams on accounting system and investment software.
- Ensure the accounting system (Tally / Zoho Books / SAP / equivalent) is kept updated, well-structured, and audit-ready at all times.
Qualifications & Experience for both
