The Company is expanding its operations across biomass, recycling, metals trading and allied green energy sectors, with a clear objective to create a disciplined, compliant and scalable trading business in India and international markets.
As part of this growth, HOMRE is now strengthening its dedicated metals trading capability, initially focusing on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including metal scrap, recycled metals, industrial metal products and related physical commodity flows.
The Company is seeking a commercially driven, disciplined and market-aware Metal Trader / Junior Metal Trader to help develop and manage its metals trading book in India.
Role OverviewThe successful candidate will support and progressively manage the sourcing, procurement, sales and trading of ferrous and non-ferrous metals across India. The role will include identifying reliable suppliers and customers, negotiating trades, monitoring market prices, coordinating logistics, managing quality and quantity controls, supporting payment and documentation processes, and building a profitable physical metals trading portfolio.
This position is suitable for a candidate with prior experience in metals, scrap, recycling, commodities, steel, non-ferrous metals, industrial raw materials, or B2B trading. The role requires strong commercial judgement, good numerical skills, market intelligence, discipline in documentation and the ability to work in a fast-moving trading environment.
The candidate should be comfortable dealing with suppliers, manufacturers, recyclers, processors, stockists, foundries, rolling mills, steel plants, smelters, aggregators, traders, transporters, inspection agencies and internal finance/compliance teams.
Key Products and Trading FocusThe role will initially focus on physical trading of metals and metal scrap, including but not limited to:
Non-Ferrous Metals
Copper scrap, copper wire scrap, copper cathodes, brass scrap, aluminium scrap, aluminium ingots, zinc, lead, nickel, stainless steel scrap and other recyclable non-ferrous metals.
Ferrous Metals
Iron scrap, HMS scrap, cast iron scrap, steel scrap, MS scrap, stainless steel scrap, billets, rods, bars, plates, coils and other industrial steel products.
Recycling and Green Materials
Recyclable industrial metals, secondary raw materials, factory scrap, demolition scrap, production scrap and other materials linked to circular economy and sustainable supply chains.
Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify, develop and maintain a reliable network of metal suppliers, aggregators, recyclers, stockists, processors, foundries, manufacturers and end-users across India.
Source ferrous and non-ferrous metals at competitive prices, with proper verification of quality, quantity, documentation and supplier reliability.
Develop customer relationships with industrial buyers, rolling mills, smelters, foundries, processors, exporters and bulk consumers.
Support the daily management of the metals trading book, including open positions, purchase commitments, sales contracts, margins, delivery schedules and payment timelines.
Track market prices for ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including domestic mandi/wholesale prices, scrap yard prices, import parity, LME/MCX indicators, currency movement, logistics cost and regional demand-supply trends.
Prepare daily market updates, price comparisons, supplier/customer pipelines, trade opportunities and margin analysis for management.
Negotiate purchase and sale contracts, including price, quantity, grade, quality specifications, delivery terms, payment terms, deductions, rejection clauses and dispute mechanisms.
Coordinate with operations, finance, accounts, logistics, inspection, legal and compliance teams to ensure smooth trade execution.
Ensure proper trade documentation, including purchase orders, sales contracts, invoices, GST compliance, e-way bills, weigh bridge slips, quality certificates, transport documents, delivery challans and payment confirmations.
Monitor trade profitability by tracking landed cost, transport cost, loading/unloading cost, quality deductions, finance cost, GST impact and final net margin.
Conduct counterparty due diligence, including basic KYC, GST verification, bank account verification, business reputation, past trade references and payment behaviour.
Support payment follow-up and receivables management, ensuring that trades are executed within approved credit limits and agreed payment cycles.
Build long-term trading relationships while maintaining strict commercial discipline, ethical conduct and bank-only settlement standards.
Identify arbitrage opportunities across regions, products, grades and customer segments.
Assist in developing SOPs for metals procurement, sales, inventory control, quality checks, logistics movement and trading risk management.
Maintain trading records accurately in MIS, Excel or any internal system adopted by the Company.
Support senior management in expanding the metals trading desk into larger domestic and international opportunities.
Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate should be commercially sharp, energetic, ethical, numerate and highly disciplined in execution. The person must understand that metals trading requires speed, accuracy, documentation control and strong relationship management.
The candidate should be a self-starter who can build business from the ground up, identify genuine opportunities, avoid unreliable counterparties and protect the Company's commercial interests at all times.
Required ExperienceMinimum 2 to 7 years of experience in metals trading, scrap trading, commodity trading, recycling, steel, non-ferrous metals, industrial raw materials, procurement or B2B sales.
Prior experience in ferrous or non-ferrous metal scrap trading will be highly preferred.
Experience in dealing with copper, aluminium, brass, zinc, lead, stainless steel, iron scrap, HMS, MS scrap, steel products or industrial metal waste will be an advantage.
Experience with suppliers, scrap yards, factories, recyclers, stockists, foundries, rolling mills, smelters or industrial consumers will be beneficial.
A pre-existing network of suppliers and buyers in India will be strongly preferred.
Experience in price negotiation, market analysis, supplier development, customer acquisition and trade execution is important.
Knowledge of domestic trading documentation, GST, e-way bills, weighbridge process, quality inspection and logistics coordination will be required.
Understanding of MCX, LME, import parity, currency movement and basic hedging concepts will be an added advantage, though not mandatory for junior candidates.
Skills and CompetenciesStrong understanding of physical metals trading and commodity market behaviour.
Good commercial judgement and ability to calculate trading margins quickly and accurately.
Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
Ability to identify genuine suppliers and customers and avoid speculative or unreliable market participants.
Good knowledge of metal grades, quality parameters, contamination risks, deductions, rejection standards and weighing practices.
Strong numerical, analytical and Excel skills.
Ability to prepare daily reports, pricing sheets, margin calculations, trade summaries and customer/supplier pipelines.
Good communication skills in English and Hindi. Additional regional languages will be an advantage.
Ability to travel across India for supplier visits, customer meetings, yard inspections, plant visits and trade development.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-moving trading environment.
Proactive, target-driven and willing to build a scalable metals trading book.
Educational QualificationBachelor's degree in Commerce, Business, Economics, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, Metallurgy or a related discipline is preferred.
Candidates with strong practical market experience in metals trading may also be considered even if they do not have a formal specialised degree.
