ROLE OVERVIEW
The Floor Manager is responsible for keeping the entire workshop floor running smoothly — on time, safely, and to quality standards. You'll manage the technician team, oversee job progress, and ensure every vehicle gets the right attention at the right time. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows workshop operations inside out.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan and allocate daily job cards to technicians based on skill set and workload
• Monitor job progress throughout the day and intervene when jobs are running behind schedule
• Conduct technical walkarounds on vehicles before delivery to ensure work quality
• Coordinate between Service Advisors, technicians, and the parts team to avoid delays
• Maintain discipline and productivity on the workshop floor — attendance, housekeeping, tool accountability
• Handle technical escalations — diagnose issues that junior technicians are stuck on
• Track bay utilization and report productivity metrics (jobs per bay, turnaround time) to management
• Ensure proper use of workshop equipment and flag maintenance needs before they cause breakdowns
• Enforce safety practices — PPE usage, proper jacking procedures, chemical handling
• Onboard and mentor new technicians; identify skill gaps and recommend training
IDEAL CANDIDATE
• Strong technical background — hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and suspension work
• Prior experience managing a team of 8–15 technicians in a busy workshop environment
• Ability to read and understand technical repair data, wiring diagrams, or OEM service manuals
• Assertive but fair — can hold the team accountable without creating conflict
• Good coordination skills — works seamlessly with front office and parts team
• Familiarity with workshop management software for job tracking and reporting
