Role Description
To ensure the continuous, reliable, and high-quality operation of Can Man welding production lines at CairoPac. The Welder Supervisor owns the full mechanical integrity of the welding system — from daily preventive maintenance and rapid fault resolution to quality assurance and operator development. The role is critical to minimising unplanned downtime and ensuring every can produced meets CairoPac's weld quality standards.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on Can Man / Soudronic welding machines, Roll Formers, Power Cure units, and all associated line equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults across welding rolls, copper wire systems, powder application arms, valves, curing units, calibration crowns, bearings, belts, chains, and drive systems.
• Ensure correct machine alignment, calibration, and all mechanical adjustments including overlap, roll height, and crown height settings.
• Monitor and control wire tension, welding pressure, and clutch systems throughout production.
• Respond rapidly to breakdowns and line stops — restore production with minimal downtime; all stoppages to be logged with root cause within the same shift.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for all recurring failures and implement corrective actions within agreed timelines.
Production & Quality
• Supervise the full welding production operation across CAN Line 1 (DIA 99/153) and CAN Line 2 (DIA 73) to meet daily and monthly output targets.
• Ensure consistent weld integrity on all produced cans — visual inspection, weld strength checks, and powder/lacquer distribution quality.
• Manage and execute machine changeovers (size, diameter, and height adjustments) accurately and with minimal line stoppage.
• Maintain internal powder application quality within and around the weld zone.
• Support leak testing operations and act immediately on any leakage defects traced to the weld.
Team & Reporting
• Lead, train, and develop local CAN Line technicians and operators
• Conduct structured shift handovers with clear status on machine condition, ongoing issues, and corrective actions in progress.
• Maintain accurate daily records of downtime events, maintenance activities, and spare parts consumed.
• Contribute to the creation and implementation of SOPs and OPLs for all welding line equipment.
• Hands-on expertise with Soudronic Can Man welding machines (or equivalent machines) — operating, troubleshooting, and calibrating independently.
• Strong understanding of Roll Former mechanics — forming rolls, calibration, and strip-feed systems.
• Knowledge of copper wire systems — wire grade selection, tension control, wear monitoring, and replacement procedure.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings relevant to welding line equipment.
• Familiarity with internal powder systems integrated into the welding line.
