Job Description:

  • Technical Knowledge

Understanding of basic metallurgy (e.g., behavior of metals under heat)Knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW/MIG, TIG, etc.)

Understanding of gas-cutting principles (oxygen-fuel characteristics, flame types)

Familiarity with welding symbols, drawings, and standard tolerances

Awareness of heat‑affected zones, distortion, and material preparation

  • Equipment Handling Skills

Ability to identify and use:

Welding machines (transformers, inverters)

Regulators, hoses, cutting nozzles

Electrodes, filler rods, and consumables

Competence in equipment pre-checks, fitting, and adjustments

Safe shutdown and isolation of tools

  • Safety Competencies (Mandatory)

Knowledge of PPE: welding helmet, gloves, apron, shoes, goggles

Understanding of:

Fire hazards

Explosion risks (e.g., gas leaks, backfires)

Hot‑work permit processes

Proper handling and storage of O₂ and fuel gas cylinders

Awareness of workplace ventilation requirements

Ability to conduct a hazard identification (HAZID) before starting work

  • Workmanship & Practical Skills

Good hand-eye coordination

Ability to maintain consistent arc length, travel speed, and angles

Skill in producing:

Uniform weld beads

Proper penetration

Minimised spatter and distortion

Precision in marking, cutting, and edge preparation

Use of measuring tools (tape, vernier caliper, angle gauge)

  • Quality Awareness

Understanding of:

Visual weld inspection

Weld defects (porosity, undercut, cracks, lack of fusion)

Ability to identify defective consumables or equipment

Knowledge of applicable quality standards (e.g., ISO, ASME)

  • Physical & Cognitive Skills

Ability to work in varied postures (vertical, horizontal, overhead, surface and underground)

Good eyesight and depth perception

Spatial awareness while handling torches and electrodes

Basic mathematical ability for measurements

  • Communication & Documentation

Ability to interpret:

Work instructions

Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)

Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

Effective coordination with supervisors, riggers, helpers, and safety teams

  • Certification / Compliance

Welder qualification tests

Training on:

Hot work safety

Gas cylinder handling

Fire watch duties

Compliance with company's SOPs and safety rules

Key competencies required for this role:

  • Willingness to learn

Location: Zawar Mines, Udaipur, Rajasthan, INDIA
