We are looking for a Web Developer – Website Build & Maintenance for an exciting contract/freelance opportunity with ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce).

Job Role: Web Developer – Website Build & Maintenance

Client: ONDC

Location: Delhi

Work Mode: Onsite

Experience: Hands-on experience in website development, deployment, and maintenance

Relevant Experience: Strong hands-on experience in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, REST APIs, CMS configuration, responsive website development, production deployment, hosting, website security, and maintenance.

Mandatory Skills:

• Strong fundamentals in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
• Experience developing responsive, fast-loading, cross-browser-compatible websites.
• Working knowledge of TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience with Node.js and building simple HTTP servers and REST APIs using Express or equivalent.
• Experience reading and writing data to a database.
• Familiarity with front-end libraries and build tools.
• Experience with Git-based development workflows.
• Hands-on experience with at least one CMS, such as WordPress, Drupal, Strapi, Ghost, or Sanity.
• Ability to independently develop, deploy, and maintain a website in a live production environment.
• Experience configuring and customizing CMS themes, templates, plugins, or content models.
• Knowledge of hosting, domain configuration, SSL, routine backups, security updates, dependency management, and uptime monitoring.
• Ability to document technical implementation and provide a clear handover to non-technical users.

Good-to-Have Skills:

• Headless CMS and decoupled frontend architecture.
• Basic DevOps knowledge, including Nginx, CI/CD, and AWS/GCP/Azure.
• Core Web Vitals and website performance optimization.
• Form handling and third-party API integrations.
• Experience converting Figma designs into responsive web pages.
• Knowledge of basic SEO, analytics, accessibility standards, and website security best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build responsive, fast-loading web pages based on designs, wireframes, and business requirements.
• Develop and maintain lightweight backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Evaluate static/custom website development versus CMS-based solutions and recommend a suitable approach.
• Set up, configure, and customize the selected CMS, including themes, templates, plugins, and content models.
• Create a user-friendly content editing workflow for non-technical staff.
• Handle website deployment, hosting, domain configuration, SSL setup, and routine backups.
• Monitor website uptime and resolve bugs, performance issues, and production incidents.
• Apply security patches, dependency updates, and routine maintenance.
• Implement basic SEO, analytics, accessibility, and website performance best practices.
• Follow Git-based development practices and maintain clean, manageable code.
• Document the implementation, deployment process, configurations, and maintenance procedures.
• Ensure a smooth handover so the website can be maintained by internal staff or another developer.
• Own the website development lifecycle from local development and testing through production deployment and maintenance.

Who Can Apply

Developers with hands-on experience building and maintaining websites end-to-end.

Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js.

Experience with REST APIs, databases, and at least one CMS platform.

Ability to independently deploy and maintain websites in production.

Knowledge of hosting, SSL, domain configuration, security, backups, and performance optimization.

Experience with responsive design, Git workflows, and technical documentation.

Candidates comfortable with remote, contract-based, or freelance engagements.

Developers who can recommend an appropriate website architecture and provide a smooth handover to non-technical users.
