Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a VTS Operator (Vessel Traffic Service Operator) based at Mumbai Port, supporting vessel traffic management, marine safety, and port operations.

The operator will be responsible for monitoring and managing vessel movements within designated port and coastal waters using advanced VTS technologies, including radar, AIS, VHF communication systems, and CCTV networks. Day-to-day responsibilities include tracking vessel traffic, providing navigational information, maintaining operational records, coordinating with pilots and port authorities, and ensuring compliance with maritime safety regulations.

The role involves collaborating with marine operations teams, port authorities, vessel operators, and emergency response agencies to enhance navigational safety, optimize vessel movement, and support efficient port operations. This position offers exposure to modern vessel traffic management systems and advanced maritime technologies.

Qualifications

  • GMDSS Certification (Mandatory)
  • Diploma/Degree in Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Maritime Studies, or equivalent qualification
  • Valid ROC/GOC Certificate (Preferred)
  • VTS Operator Certification in accordance with IALA V-103 standards (Preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of navigation principles, COLREGs, and port operations
  • Proficiency in AIS, Radar, VHF communication systems, and vessel monitoring technologies
  • Familiarity with SOLAS, MARPOL, and IMO regulations
  • Good computer literacy and experience with VTS software applications
  • Excellent communication skills in English (verbal and written)
  • Ability to remain alert, attentive, and calm in high-pressure operational environments
  • Strong situational awareness, analytical thinking, and decision-making abilities
  • Experience in maritime navigation, port operations, marine communication, or VTS operations is preferred
