The Opportunity Alesa Ai is looking for a dedicated, technically proficient Linux Systems & Infrastructure Intern to join our UK-based team. This is not a shadowing role—you will be working 30–40 hours per week on mission-critical projects using our hybrid infrastructure. Our goal is simple: We want to train you over the next 6 months to become a permanent, full-time member of our development team.
Internship Structure & Compensation This is a 6-month commitment designed as a performance-based trial:
- Month 1 - 3: Probation and Trial Period (Unpaid).
- Months 4 – 6: Potential for a merit-based stipend (Contingent on initial 3-month performance levels and meeting KPIs).
- The End Goal: A permanent, paid job offer for candidates who meet our standards of excellence at the conclusion of the 6 months.
- Terms of Retention: Continued participation is strictly dependent on meeting attendance, professional communication, and the timely execution of systems administration and infrastructure tasks.
The Tech Stack You will be working across our infrastructure environment:
- Operating Systems: Advanced Linux (Ubuntu/Debian/RHEL).
- Hosting/Infrastructure: VPS, Hostmonster and Hostinger management.
- Backend/Cloud: Supabase (PostgreSQL), server-side orchestration.
- Security/Networking: SecOps, SSH hardening, DNS, firewall management, and SMTP/Mail server configurations.
Internship Responsibilities
- Systems Administration: Managing and optimising our Linux-based server environment.
- Infrastructure Management: Overseeing performance and configurations on VPS/Hostinger platforms.
- Infrastructure Migration: Executing the strategic transition of services from local hardware to Supabase-based cloud infrastructure.
- Security & Reliability: Implementing robust backup protocols, monitoring system logs, and ensuring maximum uptime for core business operations.
- Automation: Writing and maintaining shell scripts to automate repetitive system tasks.
- Support: Collaborating with our developers to ensure our AI applications have the necessary resources and environment to function seamlessly.
Applicant Requirements (Must Haves)
- Linux Proficiency: Deep understanding of Linux distributions; command-line mastery is mandatory.
- Hardware Experience: Proven experience with VPS environments.
- Supabase & Cloud: Solid understanding of PostgreSQL management via Supabase.
- SecOps/Networking: Fundamental knowledge of network security, firewalls, system hardening, and SMTP/Mail server management.
- Docker/Containers: Experience with containerised deployments.
- Commitment: Ability to work 30–40 hours per week (Full-Time equivalent).
- Professionalism: Independent problem-solving skills and strict adherence to deadlines.
- Communication: Native or bilingual-level proficiency in written UK English and consistent meeting attendance.
Bonus Skills
- Scripting: Advanced proficiency in Bash or Python for automation.
- AI/LLM Infrastructure: Experience managing the resource requirements for hosting or interacting with LLMs.
