The VP/Director, Application Engineering leads a large, multi-disciplined delivery organization in India - comprising multiple Agile PODs supporting Health, Wealth and Talent Lines of Business (LOBs). Reporting to the Human Capital Chief Product Officer, this leader owns engineering local strategy, delivery execution, people leadership, and the AI transformation agenda across the portfolio.

The role carries a dual mandate: run excellence (quality, predictability, and resilience across current platforms) and change excellence (embedding AI and emerging technologies into delivery in a scalable, enterprise-grade manner).

Role Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership & Delivery

• Lead and grow multi-POD teams (Development Managers, Architects, Tech Leads) across the three LOBs that comprise Human Capital
• Serve as primary escalation point for delivery issues, technical blockers, and cross-POD dependencies.
• Define engineering standards, delivery rhythms, and governance frameworks for consistent quality
• Manage resource planning - headcount, skill mix, vendor partners - across current and future roadmaps.
• Drive CI/CD maturity, automated testing, and release management practices across all PODs.
• Own engineering SLAs and KPIs use metrics to drive continuous improvement.

AI Delivery & Emerging Technology

• Own the AI delivery agenda: identify, evaluate, and scale AI/GenAI use cases across LOBs.
• Enable enterprise-grade AI governance - responsible AI principles, model evaluation, data privacy
• Embed AI tooling into development workflows: AI-assisted coding, automated testing, intelligent observability.
• Partner with Product, Architecture and Data teams to co-create technically sound, scalable AI roadmaps.
• Horizon-scan emerging AI technologies (LLMs, agentic AI, AI-augmented DevOps) for portfolio applicability.
• Build AI literacy and delivery capability across all engineering teams.

Platform Strategy & Stakeholder Engagement

• Co-own multi-year platform roadmaps per LOB translate business outcomes into engineering priorities
• Drive modernization.
• Define and enforce API strategy and API governance.
• Influence global LOB leaders, Product Owners, Architects, and Risk/Compliance stakeholders.
• Communicate engineering value clearly at executive level contribute to investment business cases.
• Represent the India hub in global forums shape enterprise-wide technical and AI standards.

Required Skills and experience:

Leadership & Delivery

• 15+ years in software engineering 5+ years leading large, multi-team delivery organizations.
• Proven Agile-at-scale delivery across distributed, India-based POD structures.
• Track record managing complex, enterprise-grade global platforms across multiple LOBs.
• Experience managing vendor and strategic partner relationships in a technology delivery model.

AI & Technical Expertise

• Hands-on AI/ML or GenAI delivery experience - from prototype to production at scale.
• Familiarity with LLMs, RAG architectures, prompt engineering, and AI orchestration frameworks.
• Deep .NET / C#, RESTful API, and modern web framework proficiency (React / Angular).
• Strong Azure cloud expertise: PaaS, Azure DevOps, IaC, security patterns.
• CI/CD tooling experience: Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions.
• Understanding of microservices, event-driven systems, and enterprise integration patterns.
