Job Description
The Byron Community Centre is an independent not-for-profit, entirely self-funded through donations, income and project grants. These funds are used to support vulnerable people and offer a range of arts and social programs for the benefit of the whole community.
For 130 years, the Byron Community Centre has played a key role in establishing and hosting a range of projects, services and events for locals and visitors, including our social enterprises: Byron Markets, Byron Spaces and Byron Theatre.
The Byron Markets are a much-loved regular events that showcase local makers, producers and performers, while celebrating the vibrant community spirit of Byron Bay.
This role offers flexible hours, community-focused work and the opportunity to contribute your creative skills to one of Byron's most iconic community events.
Position Summary
The Volunteer Graphic Designer is responsible for creating engaging and visually consistent design assets to support the Byron Community Markets. This includes digital and print materials that reflect the vibrant, creative and inclusive nature of the markets.
Working with the marketing and events team, the Graphic Designer will help strengthen community awareness and participation in the markets through professional, creative visual communication.

Job requirements
Key Accountabilities
- Create and deliver a minimum of 3 social media posts per week to support Byron Community Markets promotion.
- Design and update market posters for upcoming events.
- Support the development of print advertising creative as required.
- Provide ad hoc creative support across other marketing and promotional needs.
- Ensure all creative materials are visually consistent with the Byron Community Centre's brand identity and market themes.
- Collaborate with the events and marketing team to bring creative concepts to life and meet deadlines.
Required
- Demonstrated experience in graphic design (professional, freelance or volunteer).
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar design software.
- Strong eye for design, typography, colour and layout.
- Ability to follow brand guidelines while adding creative flair.
- Effective time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
- Familiarity with community, arts or events design.
- Knowledge of social media platforms and digital content creation.
- Photography or illustration skills.
