Job Description

Job Title: AVD Engineer

Location: Bangalore (Onsite)

Reporting to: Sr. Manager CPCOE

PURPOSE OF ROLE: This role provides Level3 technical ownership for the Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) platform, ensuring stability, performance, security, and cost efficiency of enterprise VDI environments. The role adds value by resolving complex production issues, driving root cause analysis, optimizing costs, and setting technical standards while mentoring L2 engineers and supporting global business users.

KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Own L3 support and escalation management for Azure Virtual Desktop environments, resolving complex issues related to session hosts, profiles, performance, and connectivity.

Perform deep troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring and highseverity incidents and implement longterm preventive fixes.

Design, implement, and optimize AVD host pools, scaling plans, and image management to improve performance, availability, and user experience.

Drive AVD cost optimization initiatives through rightsizing, session density improvements, scaling automation, and storage optimization.

Implement and maintain security controls including Azure RBAC, Conditional Access, MFA, NSGs, and Defender for AVD environments.

Monitor AVD health using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics, identify trends, and proactively address risks.

Provide technical guidance and mentoring to L2 engineers and contribute to SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge articles.

Collaborate with crossfunctional teams (Cloud, Security, EUC, Service Desk) to standardize AVD best practices and platform improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

Education:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8+ years of overall IT infrastructure experience.
  • 7+ years of handson experience supporting Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD / WVD) in enterprise environments.

  • Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD / WVD) Expert
  • Advanced AVD Troubleshooting & RCA Expert
  • FSLogix (Profiles, App Masking, performance issues) Advanced
  • Azure Networking (VNETs, Subnets, NSGs) Advanced
  • Azure AD / Entra ID, RBAC Advanced
  • Conditional Access & MFA Advanced
  • Windows 10/11 Multisession Advanced
  • Azure Monitor & Log Analytics Advanced
  • Image Management & Session Host Lifecycle Advanced
  • Stakeholder & Incident Communication Advanced

Preferred (Good to have) Skills:

  • MSIX App Attach Intermediate
  • PowerShell Automation Intermediate
  • Intune / Endpoint Manager integration Intermediate
  • Shared Image Gallery Beginner to Intermediate
  • ITIL Foundation Beginner
