Vice President - Platform Engineering & Cloud Transformation

Role Summary
The VP Platform Engineering & Cloud Transformation runs the current infrastructure while building the target platform. This is an operating role and a transformation role.The role keeps existing SaaS environments stable, builds the new cloud-native platform, owns the Oracle to Postgres migration pipeline, establishes the security practice, and brings platform engineering discipline into the way teams ship.
What This Role Owns
- Current SaaS infrastructure stability.
- Target cloud-native platform architecture and operations.
- Kubernetes, Postgres, Kafka, Redis, Kong, observability, and CI/CD platform foundations.
- Oracle to Postgres migration tooling, validation, rollback, and cutover support.
- Platform SLOs, incident response, on-call model, and environment controls.
- Security, network, access, secrets, WAF, and compliance readiness.
- DBA practice across Oracle legacy operations and PostgreSQL target operations.
- Platform team structure, hiring, standards, and capability building.
What This Role Does Not Own
- Product roadmap or commercial prioritization.
- Domain business rules owned by Supply Chain, Core Commerce, or Digital Commerce.
- Architecture authority for bounded contexts, which sits with the Chief Architect and Technical Design Council.
- Program status governance, which sits with the Transformation Program Lead.
- Embedded engineering delivery inside domain squads.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Operations
- Own infrastructure across current and target environments.
- Define and operate platform SLOs.
- Manage environment provisioning, access, capacity, and decommissioning.
- Reduce cloud waste through shared infrastructure, capacity discipline, and retention controls.
Target Platform
- Build the shared platform foundation for Kubernetes, Postgres, Kafka, Redis, Kong, observability, and CI/CD.
- Establish standards for deployments, secrets, networking, monitoring, tracing, and release automation.
- Make platform capabilities usable by domain teams without each team having to invent its own tooling.
Migration Engineering
- Own the Oracle to Postgres migration pipeline with the migration engineering team.
- Define migration throughput, data validation, rollback readiness, and post-migration checks.
- Work with domain teams and Principal QA on parity, shadow, pilot, and cutover readiness.
Security And Reliability
- Build the security practice and baseline controls.
- Establish incident response, on-call, alerting, and production review practices.
- Drive SOC2 / ISO 27001 readiness where needed.
Team Building
- Lead a distributed platform organization across infrastructure, DBA, security, DevOps/SRE, internal IT, and migration engineering.
- Hire senior platform, security, SRE, and DevOps talent where the current team has gaps.
- Grow junior engineers into a disciplined platform practice.
Qualification Criteria
Required Experience
- BE / BTech with 15+ years in infrastructure, platform engineering, SRE, database operations, or cloud operations.
- Experience leading teams of meaningful size and mixed seniority.
- Deep experience in at least two of Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Azure/AWS, Kafka, observability, or security operations.
- Experience running production systems while modernizing them.
- Strong understanding of multi-tenant SaaS operations, access control, reliability, and incident management.
- Hands-on comfort with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD tooling.
Helpful Experience
- Oracle to Postgres migration experience.
- Retail, ERP, POS, OMS, or e-commerce platform experience.
- Experience building a platform team from an early stage.
- Familiarity with .NET, Java/Spring Boot, and mixed-stack modernization.
- Compliance exposure, including ISO 27001, SOC2, penetration testing, or security audits.
