Responsibilities

As the Head of Data Operations, you will be responsible for leading the integration of data operations within our data engineering frameworks, our data quality teams and our governance practices. You will be responsible for developing a single pane of glass through which we can see daily progress of operational processes and quality data flowing through our pipelines to users and applications. This role is pivotal in driving resilient and proactive 24x7 data solutions and bridging the gap between engineering and business operations. You will be tasked with building robust operational processes that support the firm's data-driven decision-making while ensuring that data solutions are fully integrated into our technical environment for future growth.

Responsibilities include:

  • Define and document operational processes and flows with required SLAs to meet business requirements.
  • Create operational monitoring systems and proactive notifications to alert teams of issues to be proactively addressed.
  • Lead the incident management function working with teams working directly with technical teams or business stakeholders to remediate issues, serving as incident lead for coordination and communication until issues are resolved.
  • Perform root cause analysis of issues and develop recommended improvements for engineering, business operations and data stewards as needed.
  • Experience in enterprise data platforms, building or stabilizing DWH environments, deep understanding & experience of data pipelines.
  • Develop performance metrics and KPIs to measure the effectiveness of data operations, ensuring alignment with business goals and continuous improvement.
  • Define and centralize operational 24x7 support model inclusive of staffing and training needs.
  • Hire, train and mentor operational staff and develop a culture of urgency, efficiency and precision.
  • Collaborate closely with data engineering teams to define and implement operational processes that align with data pipeline architectures, ensuring robust and scalable data solutions.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of data operations, ensuring that data flows through the new pipeline efficiently and accurately, with minimal disruption to downstream users.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and accountability between technical and business teams to ensure alignment on data quality objectives and operational goals.
  • Lead strategic initiatives related to the optimization and scalability of data operations, ensuring that data processes are robust, efficient, and able to handle future growth.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience hands-on data management including data pipeline, data solutions, or a similar field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of the asset management industry and financial data concepts
  • Expertise in data pipeline architecture, data validation frameworks, and data governance processes, with the ability to integrate operational practices into engineering frameworks for long-term scalability.
  • Ability to bridge the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring that data operations are fully integrated into the firm's broader technical and business environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to build and lead high-performing teams and collaborate across functions to drive operational excellence.
  • Experience in developing and leading 24x7 centralized operations and follow the sun staffing models.

Education

Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, computer science, or a related field.
