As a Vice President in the Corporate Tax Team, you will lead India GST compliance coverage for an assigned portfolio of legal entities and businesses with end-to-end accountability for delivery quality, governance, and controls. You will oversee technical review, issue management, stakeholder engagement, and team development to ensure compliance is accurate, timely, and well-evidenced. You will drive continuous improvement through standardization, data-driven exception management, and automation in partnership with Technology and functional stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee data compilation, tax calculations, reconciliations, return preparation and filing, accounting entries, and transaction-level monitoring for GST compliance.
- Ensure accurate and timely delivery of compliance obligations with complete workpapers, appropriate review, and a clear audit trail.
- Provide technical review and constructive challenge of GST positions, reconciliations, exceptions, and supporting documentation.
- Own the compliance calendar, delivery priorities, issue tracking, and timely certification and escalation for the assigned portfolio.
- Monitor GST law and practice developments, assess implications, and communicate required actions to stakeholders.
- Advise on complex GST matters, new products, business initiatives, and process changes in coordination with country tax coverage and external advisers where needed.
- Identify data, process, system, and interpretation risks and drive sustainable mitigation and resolution actions.
- Lead end-to-end management of GST notices, queries, audits, assessments, and litigation support, including submissions, tracking, and deadline management.
- Lead and develop the GST compliance team through coaching, review, knowledge sharing, and clear accountability for quality and delivery.
- Strengthen governance, evidence retention, review controls, management information, and escalation routines while standardizing and documenting processes.
- Partner with Technology and functional stakeholders to deliver enhancements, automation, data quality improvements, and UAT to reduce manual effort while maintaining controls.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Demonstrate 10 years of India indirect tax/GST experience in a corporate or multinational tax function, financial institution, or professional services.
- Apply strong technical knowledge of India GST compliance, including returns, reconciliations, input tax credit, accounting interfaces, notices, audits, and assessments.
- Lead a compliance or tax operations team with effective review, coaching, prioritization, and escalation.
- Manage complex data, multiple entities/registrations, high-volume processes, and recurring statutory deadlines.
- Exercise sound judgment and translate technical analysis into clear, practical recommendations.
- Communicate effectively with strong stakeholder management, writing, and presentation skills for senior audiences.
- Maintain high standards of integrity, ownership, collaboration, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Hold a relevant professional qualification in tax, accounting, finance, or law.
- Attain Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent professional qualification.
- Demonstrate experience partnering with Finance/Controllers to align GST outcomes to books and records, financial reporting, and account substantiation.
- Leverage data and analytics to improve exception management, reduce filing risk, and enhance efficiency.
- Drive standardization and documentation of compliance processes, controls, and workpapers across portfolios.
- Execute effective audit and controversy response strategies with internal stakeholders and external advisers.
- Deliver technology-enabled transformation through automation, systems enhancements, and strong UAT discipline.
