We're looking for our next Vessel Manager
Vessel Manager is accountable for the Safe, Environmentally Compliant, Efficient and Cost-effective technical management of assigned Vessels. The role ensures vessels operate in full compliance with the Company's Safety Management System, Statutory regulations and Industry standards, while optimizing operational performance and reliability of the assets. The position serves as the primary link between ship and shore management, providing leadership, technical oversight, and strategic guidance to vessel teams.
Major Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of crew, vessel, and environment for all assigned ships.
- Maintain reliable operation and optimal performance of assigned vessels through effective monitoring and strict adherence to the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
- Provide continuous technical support to vessels, promptly troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
- Coordinate and arrange necessary external assistance from manufacturers and third-party service providers as required.
- Manage and control assigned vessels OPEX and CAPEX budgets, ensuring operations remain within approved limits. Provide clear justification and supporting evidence for any budget variances.
- Ensure vessels are adequately supplied with required spares, stores, lubricants, and consumables to support safe and efficient operations.
- Collaborate with the Commercial Operations team to meet voyage and time charter requirements, minimizing off-hire periods and maximizing vessel earnings.
- Monitor vessel survey schedules and ensure all statutory, trading, and other certifications remain valid and compliant at all times.
- Plan, prepare, and execute dry-docking activities in accordance with company and industry standards, ensuring safe, timely, and cost-effective completion of all approved work. Report any variances to Fleet Director/Manager.
- Coordinate with the Marine HR Department to ensure vessels are appropriately manned with qualified and competent personnel at all times.
- Maintain continuous awareness of vessel condition through effective communication and by conducting port and sailing visits in accordance with the Company's Safety Management System (SMS).
- Mentor and coach senior shipboard staff and conduct sign-on and sign-off interviews for Masters and Chief Engineers.
- Ensure vessels are fully prepared at all times for external inspections, including Port State Control (PSC), vetting inspections, and audits.
- Review and verify vessel performance data and operational reports, initiating follow-up actions to ensure optimal efficiency.
- Provide regular reports to Fleet Director/Manager on vessel condition, performance, and outstanding issues.
- Monitor fuel consumption of vessels and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Execute approved technical and operational projects within established timelines and budgets.
- To optimally utilize all projects fully completed onboard.
- To manage additional vessels assigned to him during the absence of other Vessel Managers.
- Display leadership and bring alignment with ship team for operational excellence.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by Fleet Management.
Requirements, Knowledge, Skills
- Internal candidates must have sailed as a Chief Engineer/ First assistant Engineer onboard Teekay vessels or holding a similar role within Teekay
- External candidates must possess minimum 2 years shore-based experience working in a
- similar role within tankers
- Minimum 10 years sea going experience is preferred
- Experience of dry docking tankers is desirable
- Analytical problem solving, time management, project management and decision making skills
- Demonstrates teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills
- Must have strong understanding of Technical, Operational and HSEQ Matter
