Job Title: Vendor Development Manager Transportation

Job Location : Mumbai, Pune, Delhi NCR, Indore

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Vendor Development Manager - Transportation to oversee the identification, development, and management of transportation vendors. The role involves building and nurturing relationships with key vendors, negotiating contracts, ensuring operational efficiency, and creating a robust vendor database. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of transportation operations, strong industry connections, and expertise in vendor relationship management.

Key Responsibilities:

Vendor Identification & Evaluation:

  • Research and identify potential vendors in the transportation industry that align with the company's strategic objectives.
  • Conduct market analysis and competitor bench-marking to ensure sourcing of best-in-class transportation solutions.
  • Evaluate vendors based on their capabilities, track record, compliance, and scalability.

Vendor Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain long-term, productive relationships with key transportation vendors.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all vendor-related matters.
  • Regularly review vendor performance and address any concerns to ensure service quality and compliance with contractual agreements.

Negotiation & Contract Management:

  • Lead the negotiation process for transportation contracts, ensuring cost-effectiveness, favorable terms, and alignment with company goals.
  • Collaborate with legal and procurement teams to draft, review, and finalize vendor contracts.
  • Monitor contract adherence and address any deviations from agreed terms.

Operational Knowledge & Coordination:

  • Leverage a deep understanding of transportation operations to evaluate vendor performance and ensure the efficient and timely delivery of services.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (e.g., logistics, supply chain) to align vendor services with operational requirements.
  • Ensure vendors meet compliance standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.

Industry Networking & Market Intelligence:

  • Develop and maintain a strong network within the transportation and logistics industry to stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement within the transportation vendor landscape.

Database Creation & Management:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive vendor database with key metrics, performance data, and vendor history.
  • Implement systems to track and evaluate vendor performance and provide insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure the database is regularly updated and accurate to support procurement and supply chain activities.

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare regular reports on vendor performance, market trends, cost savings, and operational issues.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to management for continuous improvement in vendor relationships and transportation operations.

Risk Management:

  • Proactively identify potential risks associated with vendors and transportation operations, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Develop contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted service delivery in case of vendor failure or market disruptions.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field. MBA or relevant post-graduate qualification is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in vendor development, procurement, logistics, or transportation management, with at least 3 years in a vendor management or development role.
  • Industry Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the transportation industry, including logistics, freight management, and supply chain operations.

Skills:

  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Excellent relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and generate actionable insights.
  • Solid understanding of transportation operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Proficiency in vendor management software and database management tools.
