UTM Operator

The UTM Operator shall report to the UTM Supervisor and shall be responsible for carrying out thickness measurements and supporting the effective execution of the project. The UTM Operator shall work closely with the UTM Supervisor throughout the assignment and provide necessary assistance to achieve complete and reliable thickness measurement coverage.

ROLES ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Verify equipment condition and calibration status before use
• Assist in identifying structural members, measurement locations, and access arrangements
• Prepare measurement surfaces and perform thickness measurements at designated locations
• Record readings accurately and assist the supervisor in preparing the UTM report
• Report excessive corrosion, damage, deformation, coating breakdown, or other abnormal conditions to the UTM Supervisor
  
  

Requirements

KEY SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

Technical Skills

• Competence in Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM) of ship structures
• Correct use, verification and care of UTM equipment, probes and accessories
• Ability to recognize corrosion, wastage, pitting, deformation, coating breakdown and
  
  

other abnormalities.

• Ability to identify structural members and measurement locations from drawings and onboard arrangements
  
  

Professional Skills

• Basic proficiency in AutoCAD for reading and marking-up ship structural drawings, measurement locations and UTM sketches. Work effectively under the direction of the UTM Supervisor
• Proficient in MS Office and digital reporting systems
• Able to speak in English and communicate effectively with team members and vessel
  
  

personnel to follow instructions and onboard safety procedures.

• Maintain professional conduct in data recording, equipment handling and documentation
• Willingness and readiness for international travel, with valid passport and national CDC
  
  

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Professional Experience

• Minimum 2 years experience in Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement and marine inspection
• Practical experience on ships as a member of UTM inspection team is an advantage
  
  

Education & Qualifications

• Graduate (any stream) or
• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical engineering or Naval Architecture
• ASNT Level II in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) or equivalent
