About the Role
The role involves reviewing U.S. federal and state tax returns, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing guidance to tax preparers while mentoring team members
Responsibilities
- Review U.S. federal and state tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, and 1120S.
- Verify tax computations, deductions, credits, and supporting workpapers.
- Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and applicable state tax laws.
- Review multi-state filings, extensions, and estimated tax calculations.
- Identify errors, discrepancies, compliance risks, and tax-saving opportunities, and coordinate with preparers to resolve issues before approval.
- Provide review notes and technical guidance to tax preparers.
- Assist in handling IRS notices, audits, and client queries.
- Stay updated on U.S. tax law changes, IRS updates, and filing requirements.
- Ensure timely delivery of returns in line with filing deadlines.
- Mentor and train team members, including knowledge sharing on tax preparation, complex cases, and process walkthroughs.
- Execute and support tasks related to automated processes, including testing, validation, and exception handling.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support process improvements, software enhancements, and tax updates.
- Support audits and compliance processes as required.
Required Skills
- 3+ years of experience in U.S. tax review.
- Qualified CPA or EA (preferred).
- Experience with multi-state taxation.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and state taxation.
- Hands-on experience with U.S. tax forms and schedules.
- Hands-on experience with at least one tax software (MyTaxPrepOffice, ProSeries, Drake, UltraTax, Lacerte, or TurboTax Professional).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple returns and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong Excel and documentation skills.
- High attention to detail and quality orientation.
- Knowledge of FBAR (FinCEN 114), FATCA (Form 8938), and foreign disclosures.
- Prior experience working with U.S. clients or offshore U.S. tax teams.
- Experience with advanced tax software features.
- Familiarity with international tax regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
