US Residential Mortgage Underwriting Team Lead

Purpose of the Role

As a Team Lead you will assess lender performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage financial risk. The role requires strong US Mortgage Underwriting & Condo Project Review knowledge, including borrowers income/assets and escrow/condo document review.

Key Responsibilities

Project Review & Analysis

• Follow current Agency and Investor guidelines for mortgage loans secured by Condominium and Co-op projects across Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and Jumbo investors.
• Review condo questionnaires, financials, insurance, legal/recorded documents, litigation, ground leases, affordable housing, resale restrictions, private transfer fees, and resale documents.
• Analyze and approve projects based on loan program requirements, including Limited Review, Full Review, Established/New Construction, Conventional, FHA, and VA.
• Communicate project declines or ineligibility to clients.
  
  

Compliance & Guidelines

• Stay updated on applicable guidelines, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
• Ensure all project reviews meet current standards and regulatory requirements.
  
  

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and develop Lender Review Analysts to meet performance and quality targets.
• Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and identify training needs.
• Manage workflow, task allocation, and SLA adherence.
  
  

Desired Skills

• Advanced knowledge of Condominium project standards for FHA (SUA & DELRAP), Conventional, Jumbo, and other loan programs.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet SLAs.
• Ability to analyze complex condo documents, including CC&Rs, Public Offering Statements, Reserve Studies, Insurance, and Condominium Plans.
• Strong professionalism, customer service, and communication skills throughout the loan cycle.
• Proficiency in Encompass or other paperless mortgage origination systems.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years in Risk Management, US Mortgage, or Underwriting, including 2+ years in a leadership/supervisory role.
• US Mortgage Underwriting experience with knowledge of income, assets, and appraisal.
• Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Finance, or a related field.
