Take full charge of tunneling operations during the assigned shift, including TBM driving, ring erection, backup activities, and tunnel services.
Ensure EPB TBMs are operated within approved parameters and manufacturer recommendations.
Achieve planned advance rates and shift production targets with optimum use of manpower and equipment.
Technical & Operational Control
Monitor TBM performance parameters, geological conditions, and machine behavior during the shift.
Coordinate with TBM Operators and Engineers to adjust operational parameters in response to ground conditions.
Identify operational risks and implement immediate corrective actions to prevent delays or incidents.
Safety & Quality
Enforce strict compliance with project safety procedures and underground work permits.
Conduct toolbox talks and ensure safe working practices throughout the shift.
Ensure quality of segment installation, ring build geometry, backfilling/grouting, and housekeeping.
Coordination & Communication
Coordinate with maintenance, electrical, ventilation, logistics, and survey teams for uninterrupted operations.
Maintain effective communication with the Senior Tunnelling Manager (STM) on shift progress, breakdowns, safety concerns, and geotechnical observations.
Ensure smooth and accurate handover between shifts.
Reporting & Documentation
Maintain accurate shift logs, production reports, downtime records, and incident reports.
Report any abnormal ground conditions, machine issues, or safety incidents immediately to the STM.
Required Skills and Competencies
Strong handson experience in EPB TBM tunneling operations, preferably in metro projects.
Working knowledge of mixed geology and hardrock tunneling.
Ability to manage large tunnel crews and multiple parallel activities under shift conditions.
Good understanding of underground safety systems, emergency response, and risk control.
Strong communication and decisionmaking skills, especially under operational pressure.
