Job Title: Trucking Insurance Underwriter (Night Shift – US Operations)

Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Trucking Insurance Underwriter to evaluate and assess risks associated with commercial trucking operations. This role involves reviewing insurance applications for trucking companies, owner-operators, and fleet businesses, and determining appropriate coverage, terms, and premiums. The position supports US operations and requires working night shifts (6:30 PM to 3:30 AM, Monday to Friday).

Key Responsibilities

Risk Assessment:

Analyze insurance applications related to trucking businesses, including driver history (MVRs), fleet details, cargo types, routes, safety records, and financial documents to evaluate risk exposure.

Underwriting Decisions:

Approve, modify, or decline trucking insurance applications based on risk appetite, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory compliance.

Premium Calculation:

Determine premiums by evaluating factors such as vehicle type, driving radius, cargo risk, claims history, and safety scores (e.g., DOT/CSA data).

Policy Structuring:

Define coverage terms including liability limits, physical damage, cargo insurance, exclusions, and endorsements specific to trucking operations.

Client & Broker Communication:

Work with agents, brokers, and clients to gather missing details, clarify discrepancies, and negotiate terms where needed.

Collaboration:

Coordinate with claims teams, actuaries, and risk analysts to ensure accurate underwriting decisions and seamless policy issuance.

Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure all underwriting decisions adhere to US trucking insurance regulations and company standards.

Documentation & Reporting:

Maintain accurate underwriting records, policy documentation, and audit trails.

Portfolio Monitoring:

Review existing trucking policies for risk changes, claims trends, or compliance issues and recommend adjustments.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field. Certifications such as CPCU or AU are a plus.

Experience:

2–3 years of underwriting experience, preferably in commercial auto or trucking insurance.

Required Skills

Strong analytical and risk assessment skills

Understanding of trucking insurance (liability, cargo, physical damage)

Familiarity with US trucking regulations (DOT, FMCSA guidelines)

Ability to interpret MVRs, loss runs, and safety reports

Excellent communication and negotiation skills

Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities

Proficiency in underwriting tools and Microsoft Office
