POSITION PURPOSE/MISSION

This position is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting scrap materials to and from customer locations. Through dependable service, safe driving practices, and clear communication, this role helps support daily scrap yard operations and maintain positive customer relationships.

SCHEDULE

  • Monday – Friday: 5:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Saturday: 5:00 AM – 12:00 PM

LOCATION: 700 S Main St, Niles, OH

Physical Requirements

  • Safely climb in and out of a tractor cab/trailer
  • Sit for extended periods in a truck tractor
  • Walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather
  • Reach, including above the head, bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel
  • Operate a tractor-trailer combination in all types of weather while safely transporting materials
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, as provided in detail in the Job Analysis Database

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Class A CDL license required
  • One plus years of experience driving dump or flatbed trucks
  • Have and maintain an acceptable MVR in compliance with DOT requirements
  • Ability to follow all federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards, and guidelines
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with other employees and customers
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two plus years of experience in regional or long-haul trucking
  • Ability to drive roll-off and lugger trucks
  • Hazmat endorsement and/or TWIC card
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Familiarity with ELD systems

Major Accountabilities

  • Safely deliver and pick up scrap metal from various off-site facilities
  • Review and secure Bill of Lading and other miscellaneous paperwork
  • Inspect trucks and trailers before and after trips and report any issues
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, fuel use, and hours of service
  • Communicate effectively with the Logistics & Scale Manager and customers
  • Follow designated routes and meet delivery schedules
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the vehicle
  • Ensure a safe work environment and contribute to a highly engaging culture that fosters safety, continuous improvement, teamwork, and trust

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to: Logistics & Scale Manager
  • Primary internal customers: Logistics & Scale Manager, Yard Operations employees
  • Primary external customers: Ferrous and non-ferrous scrap customers

POSITION CHALLENGES

  • Balancing timely deliveries with safety and compliance
  • Navigating variable weather and road conditions
  • Managing long hours and/or irregular schedules
  • Maintaining focus and alertness over long distances
  • Handling unexpected pickup issues or delays
