About the Role:
We are urgently hiring full-time Counsellors for a student wellbeing programme at IIT Bombay. The role involves general counselling for students, with the ability to handle crisis situations when they arise.
We are looking for psychologists who are:
• Driven by purpose more than by job title.
• Steady and composed when students are at their lowest.
• Proactive, take ownership, and speak up when something needs fixing.
• Neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and queer-affirming in their approach.
This role matters because you will support a highly neurodiverse student population, where the right support at the right moment makes a real difference.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide in-person counselling and psychological support to students during assigned shifts.
• Deliver neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and queer-affirming support.
• Facilitate psychoeducational workshops, peer-support, and group sessions.
• Handle crisis situations (including self-harm and suicidal ideation) with risk assessment, safety planning, and referral protocols.
• Coordinate with psychologists, psychiatrists, emergency services, and institute stakeholders when escalation is required.
• Contribute to wellbeing, awareness, and early-intervention initiatives on campus.
• Maintain confidential documentation and participate in case discussions and supervision.
Requirements:
• Master's degree in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology from a recognised institution.
• 2–4 years of counselling or mental health experience.
• Experience working with neurodivergent individuals (ADHD, autism, learning differences) using affirming approaches.
• Training or experience in trauma-informed care.
• Ability to handle crisis and high-risk cases with knowledge of risk assessment, safety planning, confidentiality, and referral protocols.
• Strong communication and active listening skills; ability to stay composed in emotionally intense situations.
• Self-driven, proactive, and able to work independently.
Preferred Profile:
• Counsellors with QPR training or other formal training in suicide prevention, crisis intervention, or Psychological First Aid.
• Male counsellors preferred.
• Prior experience with university students or young adults.
• Experience in universities, hospitals, helplines, counselling centres, or crisis-response programmes.
Growth Potential: Candidates who take ownership and lead initiatives will be considered for higher compensation and leadership opportunities within the wellbeing programme.
Mandatory Conditions:
• Must relocate to and live on the IIT Bombay campus for the duration of the role.
• Fully on-site, roster includes weekends.
Perks:
• On-campus accommodation at nominal charges.
• Regular supervision and case discussions with the wellbeing team.
• Opportunity to build and strengthen a campus wellbeing programme.
