Job Description:
To design, standardize and cost automatic transporters (hoists) and automation systems for phosphating, anodizing and electroplating plants, enabling complete in-house capability and reduced dependency on external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
1. Transporter & Hoist Design
- Design single hoist and multi-hoist transporter systems for:
- Phosphating
- Anodizing
- Electroplating
Perform:
- Load calculations (rack + parts + drag-out)
- Motor, gearbox, brake and VFD selection
- Wire rope / chain / belt sizing with safety factors
Define:
- Hoist lift, travel, dip and dwell speeds
- Gantry beam & structural requirements
2. Mechanical Design & Documentation
- Prepare GA drawings, fabrication drawings and BOM
- Select corrosion-resistant materials (SS, FRP, PP, rubber lining)
- Coordinate with fabrication & erection teams
- Support site commissioning and troubleshooting
3. Automation Interface & Logic Definition
- Define PLC I/O list for hoists and auxiliaries
- Prepare sequence of operation & interlock philosophy
- Coordinate with PLC programmer / automation vendor
- Ensure integration with:
- Tank level sensors
- Exhaust systems
- Safety interlocks
- (PLC programming knowledge preferred but not mandatory)
4. Costing & Proposal Support
- Prepare budgetary & detailed costing for transporter systems
- Estimate material, bought outs and fabrication costs
- Support sales team for fast and accurate proposal submission
5. Standardization & Knowledge Development
- Develop standard transporter sizes & speed tables
- Create reusable design templates & checklists
- Train junior engineers in transporter design basics
Mandatory Skills
- Strong experience in wet process plant transporter design
- CAD proficiency: SolidWorks / Inventor / AutoCAD
- Practical understanding of electroplating / anodizing processes
- Ability to work independently from concept to execution
Preferred Skills
- PLC / Automation exposure (Siemens / AB / Delta / Schneider)
- Experience in automatic plating lines
- Site commissioning & troubleshooting experience
