Job Summary

The Senior Transmission Line Engineer will lead the design, engineering, and execution oversight of transmission line projects up to 440 kV, focusing on renewables integration (e.g., solar parks and wind farms). This role demands extensive hands-on experience in Indian terrain challenges, ensuring compliance with CEA regulations and PGCIL standards. Ideal for a seasoned professional with a proven track record in delivering complex, high-voltage lines under tight timelines and budgets.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead conceptual and detailed design of overhead transmission lines (132 kV to 440 kV), including route alignment, tower spotting, conductor selection (e.g., ACSR/ACCC), and foundation engineering using PLS-CADD and AutoCAD software.

- Conduct geotechnical surveys, soil investigations, and environmental impact assessments (EIA) per MoEFCC guidelines, optimizing designs for seismic zones and ROW constraints in diverse Indian landscapes (e.g., desert, coastal, hilly).

- Oversee procurement and quality assurance of materials like lattice towers, insulators, and OPGW, ensuring adherence to IS 802 standards, Make in India compliance, and vendor evaluations for cost optimization.

- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for civil works (foundations, access roads), electrical installations (stringing, earthing), and testing/commissioning, including relay coordination and SCADA integration.

- Manage project risks, such as right-of-way disputes, avian protection, and cyclone-prone area reinforcements, developing mitigation plans and contingency budgets.

- Prepare technical specifications, BOQs, and tender documents for EPC contracts; review subcontractor drawings and ensure alignment with CEA (Technical Standards for Construction of Electrical Plants and Electric Lines) Regulations, 2022.

- Conduct site inspections, progress monitoring, and as-built documentation; facilitate grid connectivity approvals with CTU/STU and DISCOMs.

- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to R&D on advanced solutions like drone-based surveying or composite poles, incorporating lessons from past projects (e.g., 220 kV lines for 500 MW solar parks).

- Stay abreast of policy updates, such as Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and interstate transmission system (ISTS) charges, to enhance project feasibility.

Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's in Power Systems or Transmission Engineering preferred.

- 10-15 years of progressive experience in transmission line engineering, with at least 7 years on 220 kV+ projects in India (EPC/consulting firm background essential).

- Demonstrated delivery of extensive works, including 5+ projects involving 220/440 kV lines (e.g., design for 100+ km spans, commissioning under PGCIL tenders).

- In-depth knowledge of Indian standards: CEA Regulations, IS 5613 (conductor sag/tension), and NBC 2016 for wind loading.

Preferred:

- Professional certifications: IEI Chartered Engineer, PMP, or ETAP/PLS-CADD advanced training.

- Experience in HVDC/FACTS integration for renewables evacuation or underground cabling in urban corridors.

Skills and Competencies

- Technical Skills: Proficiency in design tools (PLS-CADD, ETAP, DIgSILENT); expertise in load flow studies, fault analysis, and EMF assessments.

- Project Skills: Strong in cost estimation (using tools like MS Excel or Primavera), contract management, and value engineering for BoM reductions.

- Soft Skills: Excellent stakeholder engagement (e.g., with forest departments for clearances); leadership in cross-functional teams; problem-solving in high-stakes environments.

- Other: Fluency in English and Hindi;

Work Environment and Conditions

- Dynamic office-site hybrid: 10% desk-based design/review, 90% field travel to remote sites with variable terrain and weather (e.g., monsoons, heatwaves).

- PPE and site safety training mandatory.
