Information about the business
Global Broking Centre - our Client Service Delivery team working in different product lines across Aon. Typically, clients will be either a national or a multinational company, with a presence in no more than 10 overseas territories. These clients will be looking for a local relationship with their broker, to provide a tailored approach towards transactional risk transfer as well as risk management advice and services.
General description of role:
To review submission packs and related policy documents to identify, assess, and intensify trade and economic sanctions risks, ensuring compliance with applicable sanctions regulations and internal policies. - external sources.
This role is part of the Aon's Global Broking Centre (GBC). The Global Broking Centre (GBC) is Aon's wholesale and specialty broking team providing advisory, placement and claims advocacy to 120+ countries across Aon's Global Commercial Risk Network.
Job responsibilities:
- Act as center of excellence for Trade Sanctions - be the SME/ go to person from a knowledge perspective on all things trade sanctions
- Act as center of excellence within GBC for Cross Border requirements - be the SME/ go to person from a knowledge perspective on all things in relation to providing insurance borking serviced from London to clients domiciled in different countries and using insurers domiciled in different countries
- Stay updated on global sanction regimes and internal compliance policies.
- Link with GBC and Aon Uk to build knowledge and leverage external sources to develop a comprehensive picture for Trade Sanctions and Cross Broder knowledge and guidance.
- Perform trade sanction checks on all new and renewal business in accordance with GBC Operating Procedures and regulatory requirements. Leverage AI and other appropriate tools to perform an accurate and efficient review of client documents, insurance policy documents and external/public sources to complete the check.
- Perform the cross-border requirements check - advising broker of any specific requirements and notifying them if any specific actions need to be triggered, for example where local regulations require a broker domiciled in the same country.
- Complete and maintain the Trade Sanctions Checklist for each applicable transaction and ensure proper filing in ECM.
- Liaise with GBC brokers and Aon Retail Network brokers and resolve any sanction-related queries or escalations.
- Maintain accurate records of checks. Support audits and compliance reviews by ensuring documentation is complete and accessible.
- Raise higher-risk cases, confirmed matches and potential breaches to the Sanctions Manager / Compliance in line with internal procedures.
- Responsible for working in accordance with the Aon UK Limited Risk Management Framework, and compliance with Aon UK Limited policies, including participation in the management of risks (including completion of mandatory training) that may adversely affect the business, interests, or reputation of any Group Company
- Take ownership of problems and their resolution, seeking assistance where necessary
- Strong Communication skill
Skills/competencies required:
- Experience in insurance, reinsurance, or financial services, ideally within underwriting operations, compliance, or sanctions/financial crime.
- Familiarity with Market Reform Contracts, London Market documentation, and policy wording (or willingness to learn quickly).
- Working knowledge of trade and economic sanctions concepts (e.g., restricted countries, SDN lists, sectoral sanctions) is an advantage.
- Ability to apply relevant sanction regulations from US (OFAC), UK (OFSI) and EU restrictive measures.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail when reviewing documents and counterparties.
- Ability to interpret and apply internal sanctions policies and escalate issues appropriately.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, able to explain sanctions issues clearly to nonspecialists.
- Comfortable working with screening systems and maintaining accurate records in line with audit and regulatory expectations.
- Experience in a regulated financial services or insurance environment is strongly preferred.
- CAMS, CGSS, ICA certifications in Financial Crime / Sanctions / Compliance or similar (desirable)
AI / Agentic Capability (Desirable)
- Interest in or experience with using AI tools (e.g., for document review, data extraction, or workflow automation) to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Willingness to adopt and experiment with emerging AI and agentic capabilities (e.g., AI assistants/agents to help with screening, triage, and documentation) as part of day today work.
- Openness to learning how AI can support sanctions controls while maintaining strong human oversight and judgement.
