Trade Compliance & Tariff Expert | [Shyva] |
[Location : Remote]
[Part Time Only]
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're building a product that sits at the intersection of global trade and technology — and we need someone who lives and breathes tariffs. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for a seasoned trade compliance expert who can do two things simultaneously: navigate the complexity of real-world HTS classification and tariff regimes today, and help us translate that expertise into the detailed product requirements that will power our platform tomorrow.
You won't just advise — you'll be in the weeds, working through HTS code determinations, stress-testing tariff scenarios, and ensuring our product reflects the nuanced realities of how global trade compliance actually works.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Serve as the in-house subject matter expert on HTS/HS code classification across product categories and geographies.
• Identify, evaluate, and apply applicable tariff rates, duty structures, and trade remedy measures (Section 301, antidumping, countervailing duties, etc.).
• Analyze eligibility under free trade agreements (USMCA, EU FTAs, CPTPP, and others) to drive tariff optimization strategies.
• Ensure end-to-end compliance with US CBP regulations, EU customs law, and other relevant trade frameworks.
• Partner closely with the product team to define detailed requirements — translating compliance logic, edge cases, and classification rules into structured, buildable product specs.
• Stay ahead of regulatory changes — tariff updates, new FTAs, country-of-origin rules, and executive trade actions — and assess their impact on our product.
• Review and validate classification outputs, tariff calculations, and compliance logic built into the platform.
• Develop internal documentation, classification guidance, and decision frameworks.
WHAT YOU BRING
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in trade compliance, customs classification, or global tariff management.
• Deep, proven expertise in HS/HTS code classification — you can work through complex determinations independently and defend them.
• Strong command of US tariff schedules (HTSUS), EU Combined Nomenclature, and major international tariff frameworks.
• Practical experience applying FTA rules of origin and preference programs to real import/export scenarios.
• Familiarity with CBP rulings, WCO guidance, and trade remedy regimes.
• Experience writing product requirements, business rules, or technical specifications.
• Excellent analytical thinking with an ability to distill complex regulatory logic into clear, structured frameworks.
• Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) is a plus.
NICE TO HAVE
• Experience with trade compliance softwares.
• Background working with importers, customs brokers, or freight forwarders across multiple trade lanes.
• Knowledge of export controls (EAR, ITAR) or sanctions compliance.
• Experience in a startup or product-development environment.
WHY THIS ROLE
This is a rare opportunity to shape a product from the ground up — your expertise won't just guide decisions, it will be built into the foundation of what we're creating. If you're energized by complex trade problems and excited about turning deep domain knowledge into scalable technology, we'd love to talk. This is a part time role.
