Job Description

Position Overview:

Location: Chennai (REHQ)

Designation: Specialist / Lead

Position Title: Tool Design Expert (Plastic, Extrusion, HPDC, Sheetmetal)

Function: EV Technical

What we need:

Exp: Minimum 7-12 Years of experience in designing Injection Mold tools, HPDC tools, Aluminium Extrusion tools, and Sheet metal power press tools for Automotive applications.

Qualification: BTech / BE / Mechanical/ EEE/ECE/Production/Automobile engineering

Industry Preference: automotive or tooling and manufacturing industries.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in automotive or tooling and manufacturing industries.
  • Hands-on background with CAD/CAM and tooling simulation software (e.g., Auto Form, Moldflow).
  • Proven expertise in designing Injection Mold tools, HPDC tools, Aluminium Extrusion tools, and Sheet metal power press tools.
  • Strong communication skills for presenting complex engineering topics.
  • Should have knowledge of tolerance stack up, GD&T as per ASME Y14.5

What you'll do:

  • Tool Design & Engineering: Support CAD engineers to Develop, design, and model parts based on mold requirement for injection molds, progressive dies, casting dies, jigs, and fixtures, often using 3D CAD software.
  • DFM (Design for Manufacturability): Evaluate and redesign product concepts to make them easier and cheaper to manufacture, ensuring the design can be produced accurately and efficiently.
  • Technical Consulting & Analysis: Provide expert advice on material selection, heat treatment, surface treatments, and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to optimize tool performance, life, and cost.
  • Problem Solving & Troubleshooting: Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on failed or malfunctioning tools and implement corrective, efficient design solutions.
  • GD&T Application: Meticulously apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to technical drawings to ensure proper form, fit, and function.
  • Project Management & Coordination: Manage tool design projects discussion with supplier from concept to production, coordinating with vendors for fabrication and ensuring schedules and budgets are met.
  • Workflow & Innovation: Drive the adoption of new technologies, such as additive manufacturing (3D printing) for tools and AI-driven design tools to improve efficiency.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers on tooling standards, CAD techniques, and best practices
