Why This Role Matters

Join us as we build and scale a mission‑critical COBRA administration platform that powers compliance-sensitive workflows for thousands of users. As our Engineering Team Lead, you'll guide a high-performing engineering team, own architectural decisions, and deliver systems where accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance are essential.

This is a role for someone who loves .NET engineering, distributed systems, and leading teams that build software with zero‑failure tolerance.

Why Work with Us

What You Bring

  1. Build Technology That Impacts Real People
  2. Own a Platform That Must Never Fail
  3. Work in a Secure, Regulated Environment
  4. Grow as a Technical Leader

Role Overview

You will lead the engineering team responsible for evolving our COBRA platform — a system that handles complex eligibility rules, time-sensitive workflows, and regulatory triggers. This role blends hands-on engineering, architectural ownership, and team leadership.

Core Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership & Delivery Excellence

  • Lead, mentor, and grow engineers through coaching and structured feedback
  • Own sprint planning, execution predictability, and delivery quality
  • Align engineering priorities with product and regulatory requirements
  • Identify risks, technical gaps, and compliance impacts early
  • Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and engineering rigor

2. Architecture & System Design

  • Own the long-term technical health of the COBRA platform
  • Drive architectural decisions for new features, refactors, and modernization
  • Ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability
  • Maintain architecture diagrams and technical documentation
  • Identify and prioritize technical debt based on business impact

3. Hands-On Development & Quality

  • Contribute to complex or high-risk components
  • Lead technical design reviews and enforce engineering standards
  • Ensure robust testing strategies and safe release practices
  • Balance delivery velocity with long-term sustainability

4. Logical Design & Regulatory Modelling

  • Translate COBRA rules, timelines, and eligibility logic into deterministic system behaviour
  • Design rule engines and workflows that are predictable, testable, and auditable
  • Ensure precision in time-bound triggers, notifications, and compliance events
  • Identify hidden edge cases and systemic risks through strong analytical reasoning

5. Scalability, Reliability & Operational Excellence

  • Design systems for fault tolerance, retries, and graceful degradation
  • Lead root cause analysis and drive permanent fixes
  • Improve observability: logging, monitoring, tracing, alerting
  • Establish reliability KPIs aligned with business impact
  • Reduce operational overhead and recurring failures

6. Security & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA and internal security standards
  • Drive secure coding practices and data protection mechanisms
  • Ensure auditability, traceability, and data integrity
  • Collaborate with security teams during audits and assessments
  • Proactively identify vulnerabilities and compliance gaps

7. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product, Operations, and Compliance teams
  • Communicate technical trade-offs and regulatory constraints clearly
  • Ensure engineering decisions align with business and compliance goals

Core Technical Skills (Must-Have)

Backend & Distributed Systems

  • C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET Core
  • API design, async programming, clean architecture, SOLID principles
  • Microservices architecture and distributed systems
  • Transactional integrity across distributed services
  • Strong SQL expertise: schema design, indexing, query optimization

Cloud & DevOps

  • Microsoft Azure (App Services, Functions, Storage, Key Vault, Service Bus)
  • CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar)
  • Observability: logs, metrics, tracing, dashboards

Frontend

  • Angular (TypeScript, RxJS, component architecture)
  • Ability to review frontend architecture and debug cross-stack issues
  • Strong understanding of API contracts and integration patterns

Domain Knowledge (Good to Have)

  • US COBRA regulations and lifecycle workflows
  • Healthcare, benefits administration, or regulated domains
  • HIPAA compliance and data privacy best practices

Experience & Expectations

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • 2+ years leading or mentoring engineers
  • Experience delivering scalable systems in regulated environments preferred
  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills
  • Ability to reason about complex rule-based systems
  • Excellent communication across technical and business teams

What Success Looks Like

  • COBRA workflows execute accurately, predictably, and without ambiguity
  • Compliance-sensitive processes run reliably and consistently
  • Security and audit requirements are always met
  • Production incidents decrease in frequency and severity
  • Architecture evolves with scalability and compliance in mind
