About the Company
At SBS(Formerly known as Sopra Banking Software), we are defining the future of regulated digital finance. Our Open Banking Platform powers payment service providers, tier 2–5 banks, and financial institutions across Europe and beyond — enabling PSD2/PSD3 compliance, SEPA Instant connectivity, and next-generation payment schemes including EPI/Wero.
About the Role
We are looking for a Technical Product Manager to take full ownership of our Open Banking Platform — a cloud-native, B2B SaaS product built on modern API infrastructure and deployed across a diverse portfolio of European bank clients. This is a senior individual contributor role that sits at the intersection of regulatory strategy, platform architecture, and commercial delivery. You will shape the product roadmap, engage directly with bank clients and integration partners, collaborate with engineering on complex technical trade-offs, and represent the platform to sales, marketing, and executive leadership. You will inherit a well-established platform and a sharp, cross-functional team — and will be expected to bring your own lens, challenge assumptions constructively, and accelerate the product forward.
Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Own and evolve the Open Banking Platform roadmap, balancing regulatory mandates (PSD2/PSD3/PSR, Berlin Group NextGenPSD2, FAPI 2.0), commercial priorities, and architectural constraints.
- Define and prioritise platform epics, features, and technical enablers with clear business rationale tied to measurable outcomes.
- Track regulatory timelines and mandate changes from the EBA, FCA, and national competent authorities; translate their implications into actionable product decisions with appropriate lead time.
- Manage the tension between compliance-driven work and innovation-driven investment — and communicate the trade-offs honestly to leadership.
Customer & Market Engagement
- Act as the product voice in pre-sales engagements, product demonstrations, and client onboarding for T2–T5 bank customers across Europe.
- Conduct structured discovery and root-cause analysis before proposing solutions — you ask hard questions before drawing on whiteboards.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing to craft compelling product narratives, competitive positioning, and go-to-market collateral.
- Serve as a trusted product advisor to clients navigating regulatory transitions and integration complexity.
Technical Collaboration
- Partner closely with engineering to make informed trade-offs on API design, authentication protocols (OAuth2, FAPI 2.0, mTLS), performance SLAs, scalability, and multi-tenant architecture.
- Hold firm on security-by-design principles and performance requirements in a regulated B2B context — you understand why they matter and you can explain it to a client.
- Engage with iPaaS and API gateway partners on feature dependencies, integration patterns, and product delivery commitments.
- Define acceptance criteria that engineers find clear and testers find complete.
Team & Stakeholder Leadership
- Be the connective tissue between engineering, architecture, sales, marketing, legal, and client-facing teams — reducing friction and increasing alignment.
- Mentor and uplift colleagues; share context and knowledge generously; create clarity from regulatory and product ambiguity.
- Present product updates, roadmap decisions, and regulatory impact assessments to senior leadership, clients, and at industry events.
Qualifications
- Deep understanding of the Open Banking and Open Finance ecosystem — how TPPs, ASPSPs, AIS, PIS, and CBPII interact within regulated frameworks, and the commercial dynamics that sit underneath.
- Strong working knowledge of PSD2, and a clear awareness of the PSD3/PSR transition: SCA requirements, consent frameworks, decoupled authentication, and the implications for platform architecture.
- Familiarity with the Berlin Group NextGenPSD2 specification and its implementation nuances.
- Solid understanding of digital payment workflows, including at least two of: SEPA Instant/TIPS, card-based payment flows (Visa/Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay), EPI/Wero, or high-volume account-to-account schemes such as India's UPI.
Required Skills
- 10+ years of total experience, with at least 4–5 years in a Technical or Platform Product Manager role in a B2B SaaS environment.
- Proven ownership of a turnkey B2B SaaS platform in a regulated industry — you understand what turnkey truly means for bank clients: deployment models, SLA commitments, upgrade paths, environment isolation, and integration onboarding complexity.
- Working knowledge of API security: OAuth2, OpenID Connect, PKCE, mTLS, and API gateway patterns.
- Practical understanding of cloud-native architecture: microservices, container orchestration (Kubernetes), message brokers (Kafka or equivalent), and observability/alerting.
- Comfortable reading API specifications, interpreting system architecture diagrams, and working through integration issues alongside engineers without needing everything translated.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with EUDI Wallet, FIDA (Financial Data Access), or Variable Recurring Payments (VRP/sweeping).
- Exposure to iPaaS or API management tooling such as Axway Amplify, MuleSoft, Kong, or Apigee.
- Experience working with or selling into T2–T4 banks in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, or the UK.
- Familiarity with ISO 20022 payment message standards.
- Experience designing developer-facing products: API portals, sandbox environments, SDKs, or developer documentation.
- Awareness of how AI and data capabilities are being applied in regulated financial services — fraud decisioning, analytics, or intelligent consent management.
