Cognizant's Digital Engineering practice is looking for an Engineering Manager with 12+ years of experience to lead a team of passionate Technology People working on products delivering modern, customer-facing platforms. You will own features end-to-end, from ideation through to production and beyond, collaborating closely with Technology Leadership & Business stakeholders. You will be expected to build a strong team culture grounded in Cognizant values, trust, inclusion, and high standards. You will hire and onboard talent, and you will coach, train, and mentor engineers. You will define the architectural vision, ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, and maintainable and act as the bridge between technical teams and stakeholders, translating technical complexity into business value.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day activities including development, design, architecture, delivery and operations, ensuring execution remains aligned to measurable business outcomes.
- Manage scope and delivery timelines. Work with peers, leadership, and the wider team to mitigate any risks and dependencies. Ensure the right level of governance and visibility is provided periodically to the wider teams.
- Partner with the Technology leaders and architecture community to align individual capability growth with the team's technical direction and the organization's engineering horizon.
- Collaborate with product leadership to assess the technical effort required for roadmap items, ensuring goals are realistic and encourage your engineers to think about the user experience, driving a culture that cares about product outcomes.
- Serve as the bridge between technology decisions and business goals, clearly articulating priorities and trade-offs.
- Drive excellence in delivery quality, velocity of delivery, usage of tools, best practices and adherence to security standards.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement driving business value.
- Manage capacity and work assignment, surface risks and dependencies early and protect the team from unplanned interruptions.
- People leadership: hiring, onboarding, training, mentorship, performance management, and building inclusive, high-performing teams aligned to culture and values.
- Identify individual and team-level skill gaps including AI engineering fluency, DevSecOps practice and product thinking and translate them into structured development plans with clear milestones and support.
- Make AI literacy a core part of every engineer's growth path: help the team build practical fluency in AI-assisted development tools, responsible AI practices, and the judgement required to use them well.
- Actively promote and model the use of AI-assisted engineering tools within the team: code generation, intelligent review, automated test scaffolding as a means of increasing quality and productivity. Ensure the team follow responsible AI practices.
Must-have Skills
- 12+ years building modern products & Software Engineering background, with 5+ years leading & managing product Engineering teams who own outcomes end-to-end.
- Proven people management experience in a technology or engineering environment: performance management, development planning, and building team culture.
- Fluent in Modern Engineering practices: agile delivery, CI/CD, cloud-native architecture, DevSecOps and AI-assisted development; sets the expectations and standards for how the team works.
- Credible technical background in software engineering (full-stack, backend, or platform) sufficient to assess quality, coach engineers, and engage in technical discussions.
- Ability to assess business cases, technical feasibility, scope, timelines, estimates, and budgets, and ensure delivery is tracked with appropriate oversight and governance.
- Strong understanding of agile delivery practices: sprint facilitation, backlog management, capacity planning, and continuous improvement.
- Product-led mindset: able to connect engineering work to customer outcomes and business value, and coach the team to do the same.
- Experience embedding AI-assisted tools or AI-powered features in an engineering team's ways of working, with appropriate standards for quality, accountability, and responsible use.
- Clear, confident communicator: able to manage peers, communicate clearly with senior leadership team and within the team.
- Sound judgement on people and delivery decisions: acts within governance, makes timely calls, and owns outcomes.
- Demonstrable commitment to inclusion, fairness, and psychological safety as active leadership behaviors.
- Experience leading engineering teams in the Energy retail sector, with a strong grasp of smart metering, industry data flows, Ofgem regulation, and an awareness of the operational reliability and customer-centric standards that define the sector.
