Role Summary

The Technical Manager High-Temperature Piping is responsible for leading the engineering, design, and execution of piping systems operating in the temperature range of 200C to 600C. The role ensures safe, reliable, and code-compliant piping solutions for refineries, petrochemical plants, power plants, and other high-temperature process facilities across EPC and operational phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead piping engineering activities for high-temperature and high-pressure services.
  • Develop piping design philosophy, technical specifications, and engineering standards.
  • Act as technical authority for material selection, piping layout, stress analysis, and flexibility design.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME B31.3, B31.1, API, EN, and project-specific standards.
  • Review and approve piping layouts, 3D models, isometrics, and material specifications.
  • Oversee piping stress analysis considering thermal expansion, creep, sustained and occasional loads.
  • Define expansion philosophy including loops, spring supports, constant hangers, anchors, and guides.
  • Select materials suitable for elevated temperatures such as carbon steel, Cr-Mo steels, alloy steels, and stainless steels.
  • Address high-temperature failure mechanisms including creep, fatigue, oxidation, and carburization.
  • Coordinate piping support design to manage thermal movements and equipment nozzle loads.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, and safety reviews related to high-temperature piping systems.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, welding, PWHT, erection, testing, and commissioning.
  • Resolve site technical queries, deviations, and non-conformances.
  • Interface with process, mechanical, civil, instrumentation teams, vendors, licensors, and clients.
  • Review vendor documents for valves, expansion joints, piping supports, and specialty items.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 1218 years of piping engineering experience with at least 57 years in high-temperature piping systems.
  • Experience in refinery, petrochemical, power, or fertilizer projects preferred.

Work Experience

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of high-temperature material behavior, creep, and thermal fatigue.
  • Proficiency in piping stress analysis tools such as CAESAR II or AutoPIPE.
  • Knowledge of spring supports, constant load hangers, and expansion joints.
  • Familiarity with welding, PWHT, and fabrication of carbon steel and alloy steel piping systems.

Soft Skills

  • Strong technical leadership and decision-making ability.
  • Capability to mentor engineers and lead multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment

EPC engineering offices, fabrication yards, construction sites, and operating plants with periodic site travel.
