Job Summary

The Technical Lead, Offshore Renewables Division (ORD) - APAC will provide technical leadership and delivery support across Deepocean's offshore renewables activities in the APAC region.

The role covers offshore renewables activities including subsea power cable installation, cable repair, fault response readiness, and associated offshore construction and intervention activities. The position will provide technical input across the full project lifecycle, from early opportunity identification and tender development through project execution, offshore delivery and lessons learned.

A key part of the role is supporting vessel and spread strategy, including technical input into vessel specification, design and capability requirements, as well as the management, modification and modularisation of existing regional lay spreads.

The Technical Lead will act as a technical lead on assigned projects, work directly with clients on engineering and technical matters together with Project Technical Managers, and participate offshore from time to time to support project delivery, technical assurance and client engagement.

The role works closely with ORD Commercial, Projects & Operations, Contracts & Procurement, Engineering and external partners to ensure technical solutions are safe, compliant, operable and commercially competitive.

As part of Deepocean's global Offshore Renewables business, the role requires regular collaboration with teams across multiple time zones, including Europe. Some flexibility in working hours is therefore required. The position will also involve domestic and international travel to support projects, client engagements and collaboration with DeepOcean's global Offshore Renewables teams.

Responsibilities

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide technical leadership for Offshore Renewables Division activities across the APAC region whilst working together with the global engineering team.
  • Ensure all technical solutions are safe, compliant, commercially competitive and aligned with DeepOcean and client requirements.
  • Support development and implementation of APAC cable installation and cable repair capabilities.
  • Lead technical input to business development, tendering, project execution and strategic asset planning activities.
  • Support development of vessel, spread and tooling solutions required to execute current and future ORD opportunities.

KEY TASKS

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Primary technical focal point for Offshore Renewables Division activities within the APAC region, supporting execution of the ORD regional strategy in alignment with global objectives.
  • Be the technical champion for the APAC region, representing it in weekly engineering meetings, ensuring resources are appropriately allocated to regional pursuits and projects in sufficient time.
  • Provide technical input into the development of DeepOcean's offshore renewables service offerings, including cable installation and cable repair activities.
  • Support the development of a technically robust and scalable cable repair capability for the APAC region.
  • Contribute to asset strategy decisions, including vessel capability needs, tooling, spreads, and long-term readiness concepts.
  • Provide early technical input into market opportunities, bid/no-bid decisions, and solution development.

Engineering & Project Delivery

  • Lead or support technical and engineering delivery on ORD projects as required, including:

- Method development and engineering philosophies
- Installation and repair procedures
- Mobilisation strategies and spread design
- Risk assessments and constructability reviews

  • Ensure technical solutions are:

- Safe and compliant
- Buildable and operable offshore
- Aligned with vessel capabilities and operational constraints

  • Participate in technical risk reviews, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, and constructability workshops.
  • Support project execution teams during delivery, mobilization, offshore operations, and close-out as required.
  • Participate offshore and at site from time to time to provide technical oversight, assurance, and support to client-facing delivery teams.
  • Drive the vessel solutions including vessel design requirements to ensure they meet and balance the technical and commercial requirements

Cable Installation and Repair Expertise

Provide subject matter expertise in subsea power cable systems, including:

  • Cable handling, storage, and transportation
  • Lay, burial, protection, and retrieval methods
  • Fault location and recovery operations
  • Cable jointing, testing, and reinstatement
  • Work with global ORD Engineering Management and technical teams to ensure alignment of approach.
  • Support development of standard and project-specific cable repair methodologies and readiness plans.
  • Interface with cable manufacturers, jointing technicians, testing providers, and specialist subcontractors.
  • Ensure lessons learned from cable installation and repair projects are captured and fed back into procedures, tenders, and vessel design.

Vessel Design & Asset Input

Provide technical input to vessel strategy, including:

  • Newbuild vessel concepts and specification development
  • Modifications or enhancements to existing vessels for ORD scope
  • Assessment of vessel capability gaps against market opportunities

Work with naval architects, engineers, and operations teams to ensure vessel designs are fit-for-purpose for:

  • Cable installation
  • Cable repair and rapid response
  • Offshore renewables construction and intervention

Support technical evaluation of chartered or partner vessels where required.

Client & Stakeholder Interface

Involved in client-facing discussions together with support from wider technical teams on tenders and projects, representing DeepOcean on:

  • Engineering philosophy
  • Technical clarifications
  • Risk and feasibility discussions

Support Commercial and Contracts teams with technical input to:

  • Tender documentation and clarifications
  • Scope definition and interface descriptions
  • Risk identification and mitigation strategies

Engage with internal stakeholders across Commercial, Projects & Operations, Procurement, and Engineering Authorities to ensure technical alignment across the business.

Quality, Risk & Governance

Ensure technical compliance with applicable:

Identify and manage technical risks throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment between technical solutions and commercial assumptions.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS SPECIFIC TO THE ROLE
Master's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or related field.


DEMONSTRABLE EXPERIENCE SPECIFIC TO THE ROLE
10+ years of experience in offshore engineering and project delivery, preferably with significant exposure to:

  • Subsea power cables
  • Offshore renewables (wind preferred)
  • Cable installation and/or repair operations

Strong understanding of offshore construction methods, vessel operations, cable spreads and marine asset capabilities.

Experience working with cable manufacturers, jointing providers, cable testing specialists, vessel operators or offshore renewable developers is highly desirable.

Experience in client-facing technical roles.

Fluent in English, both written and spoken
