Role: Instructure RM Lead Storage Engineer

Experience: 7 to 15 Years (ICS Grade: E4)

Role Overview

We are seeking detail-oriented lead engineer to join our Release Management (RM) team, focusing on infrastructure, specifically storage. This team is responsible for the RM of bare metal servers and VMware VSphere hypervisors, with network-attached storage, supporting a large Avaya UC and CC solution. The storage lead role is responsible for performing firmware updates on all storage systems, performing advanced troubleshooting and analysis of the storage, and technical leadership of the storage release management. The lead role will also train colleagues, who are experts in the servers and VMware VSphere attached to the storage, on performing storage firmware upgrades and basic troubleshooting of the storage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Release Management: Perform and lead comprehensive release management on network-attached HP Alletra iSCSI storage and Tintri VMStore NFS storage. Perform and lead all tasks necessary to ensure the RM process is non-disruptive, including: testing all releases in dev/test environment and pre-production, prior to production deployment; and performing all steps necessary to migrate live workloads off systems/components undergoing maintenance.
  • Health Check Execution: Perform and lead comprehensive pre-and post-implementation health checks on the storage.
  • Workflow Automation: Design and maintain scripts (Python, Shell, or PowerShell) to automate health check processes and other release management tasks.
  • System Analysis & Audit: Conduct advanced health audits on the storage. Analyze test results, outcomes, processes and workflows of the RM team and recommend/develop continuous improvement.
  • Technical Escalation: Serve as the final point of escalation for health-related issues and problems encountered during the storage RM activities.
  • Strategy & Optimization: Independently develop advanced approaches to RM processes, system validation process, migration health, and cross-product metric integration.

Mandatory Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Expertise and Experience:
    • Minimum 5 years experience working as a storage administrator or similar IT administration role.
    • Must have good experience on network-attached storage solutions, either iSCSI, NFS, or both. HP or Tintri storage experience highly preferred, but not required.
    • Excellent understanding of networking (IP, DNS, Firewalls) required.
    • Experience working with storage attached to the VSphere Hypervisor (ESX 7 or higher). VMware certifications a major plus. Experience working with the Linux KVM hypervisor or RedHat KVM/Openshift desired, but not required.
    • Experience with scripting (python, shell, powershell or similar tools) to automate IT processes desired, by not required.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to perform and lead technical projects, provide knowledge transfer and training to colleagues, mentor junior engineers.
  • Communication: Mastery in technical writing and stakeholder communication for large-scale global deployments.
