Technical Lead in our office in Bangalore, India.

The Lead Engineer Cash Equities will be the senior technical owner for all backend systems, integrations, and connectivity required to support the company's Cash Equities trading infrastructure. This includes exchange connectivity, market data integration, order routing adapters, backend services, and internal APIs that enable equities trading across global markets.

The role focuses on engineering excellence, system reliability, and the delivery of scalable platform componentsnot on operational workflows, risk, clearing, or middle-office functions.

This position is ideal for an engineer with deep experience in electronic equities trading and a strong background in distributed systems and low-latency integrations.

Responsibilities

Technical Ownership of Cash Equities Backend

  • Lead the design and development of backend services that support Cash Equities trading.
  • Own engineering for:
  • Exchange and MTF connectivity
  • FIX or proprietary protocol implementations
  • Market data feed handlers
  • Order routing logic (technical routing, not risk routing)
  • Equities-specific adapter layers
  • Build services that meet stringent requirements for latency, throughput, and resilience.

Exchange Connectivity & Integrations

  • Integrate with global equities exchanges, clearing access points, and execution venues.
  • Implement and maintain connectivity modules including FIX engines, exchange gateways, and heartbeat/timeout logic.
  • Conduct certification, testing, and continuous monitoring of equities integrations.
  • Ensure compliance with exchange protocol requirements and technical specifications.

API & Middleware Engineering

  • Build and maintain APIs and internal middleware components used by:
  • Trading platforms
  • Order management interfaces
  • Other internal services (client systems, operational tools)
  • Maintain strong service contracts, documentation, and version control.
  • Ensure APIs reflect best practices for performance, security, and usability.

Trade Lifecycle (Technical Layer)

  • Ensure accurate and timely handling of:
  • Order acknowledgements
  • Partial fills and fills
  • Cancel/Replace workflows
  • Execution reports
  • Collaborate with downstream teams for post-trade data transmission without owning their logic.

Reliability, Observability & Performance

  • Implement metrics, logs, traces, and connectivity health monitoring.
  • Manage failovers, redundancy patterns, retry logic, congestion handling, and backpressure controls.
  • Drive incident analysis and proactive engineering improvements.
  • Ensure systems perform under peak market load.

Delivery, Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work directly with the Head / Group Head to shape the equities engineering roadmap.
  • Lead equities-specific technical initiatives and ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
  • Collaborate with Trading, Product, DevOps, and Data teams to support business needs.
  • Provide technical mentorship to other backend and integration engineers.
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert for Cash Equities technology within engineering.

Skills & Competencies

Technical Competencies

  • Strong expertise in backend engineering for electronic trading environments.
  • Deep knowledge of:
  • FIX Protocol for equities
  • Exchange-specific protocols (e.g., OUCH, ITCH, proprietary APIs)
  • Market data feed processing
  • Low-latency systems and distributed architectures
  • Proficiency in a backend language such as Go, C++, Rust, or .NET.
  • Familiarity with message buses and streaming technologies (Kafka, Event Hub, Redis Streams).
  • Experience with microservices, container orchestration, and cloud-native tooling.

Leadership & Ownership

  • Ability to lead technical initiatives independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple business and engineering teams.
  • High level of attention to detail, ownership, and accountability.
  • Ability to document systems, produce specifications, and guide engineering best practices.

Experience Requirements

  • 812+ years of backend engineering experience, with at least 4+ years in equities trading systems.
  • Proven experience integrating with equity exchanges, MTFs, or clearing/execution venues.
  • Previous ownership of FIX engines, exchange gateways, market data handlers, or similar components.
  • Track record of building high-performance, high-availability backend systems.
  • Experience working in Agile environments.
  • Strong English communication skills; additional languages are a plus.
