Job Description

Cradlepoint is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Authority Expert to provide critical technical leadership and guidance in database management. This role requires comprehensive expertise in both Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases, covering design, administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting. You will be instrumental in managing enterprise-level database systems, ensuring robust backup and recovery strategies, and maintaining high availability to support Cradlepoint's critical operations.

What You Will Do: Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer enterprise-level database systems, specifically focusing on Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle environments.
  • Design, implement, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases, including database design, administration, performance tuning, and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Develop and implement robust database backup and recovery strategies, including comprehensive disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Utilize SQL programming and scripting languages for database management and automation tasks.
  • Apply database security concepts and best practices to safeguard sensitive data and ensure compliance.
  • Implement and manage high availability (HA) and failover clustering technologies for continuous database operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex database issues, performing root cause analysis with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade Oracle server software and related products (clients, RAC, standalone instances).
  • Perform Oracle database upgrades (e.g., from 11g to 12c, and 12c to 19c).
  • Optimize Oracle database performance through query optimization and instance tuning.
  • Manage heavy databases (100+ TB) on both Filesystem and ASM, including adding disks to ASM and datafiles in RAC.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA, managing enterprise-level database systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with database backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Proficiency in SQL programming and scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with database security concepts and best practices.
  • Understanding of high availability (HA) and failover clustering technologies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Oracle Database Expertise:
  • Experience with Oracle 10g, 11g, 12c, 18C, 19C versions (18 & 19 are additional benefits).
  • Expertise in Performance tuning (Optimizing Queries, Instance Tuning).
  • Knowledge of Oracle database upgrade processes (e.g., from 12c to 19c and 11g to 12c).
  • Experience with installation, configuration, and upgrading of Oracle server software and related products (clients, RAC 2 nodes, standalone).
  • Good understanding of RAC (2 nodes or 3 nodes) and its services.
  • Understanding of Active/Passive and Active-Active configurations (ASM and Veritas Cluster).
  • Good knowledge of physical database design.
  • Good understanding of the underlying operating systems (Windows, Unix, Linux, Solaris & AIX).
  • Familiarity with key OS commands to check server load (e.g., top, topas, sar, vmstat).
  • Experience with Partitioning (Partition Tables, Range, Hash) and partition pruning.
  • Knowledge of Indexing (Local and Global Index, benefits and drawbacks).
  • Experience working on heavy databases (100+ TB) on both Filesystem and ASM.
  • Proficiency in adding disks in ASM and adding datafiles in RAC, tempfiles, etc.

Certifications & Tools (Highly Desirable)

  • Microsoft SQL Server certification (e.g., MCSA, MCSE) or equivalent industry certifications.
  • Experience with cloud-based database platforms, such as Microsoft Azure SQL Database.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and technologies.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell or other automation tools for database administration tasks.
  • Experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools, such as SQL Server Profiler or Extended Events.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
