This role is designed for a seasoned architecture professional who will act in an advisory capacity, shaping robust, scalable, and enterprise-grade solutions on modern cloud and streaming platforms. You will play a critical role in defining end-to-end system architecture for event-driven and serverless data ecosystems, primarily on AWS. The position involves close collaboration with engineering teams, product stakeholders, and architecture governance bodies to ensure alignment with best practices and platform standards. You will lead high-impact technical discussions, influence key design decisions, and guide teams through complex integration challenges. A strong focus will be placed on Kafka-based streaming architectures and API-driven system design. Operating in a UK timezone-aligned environment, you will contribute to global delivery programs while ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance across systems. This is a highly strategic role combining deep technical expertise with strong advisory and leadership responsibilities.
Accountabilities
- Provide architectural leadership for designing and governing event-driven, serverless, and distributed systems on AWS, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and scalability goals.
- Lead architecture workshops and design discussions, documenting High-Level and Low-Level Designs (HLDs/LLDs), including trade-offs and decision rationales.
- Define and translate non-functional requirements (performance, availability, security, observability) into concrete architectural specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Architect and review Kafka-based streaming solutions, including topic design, partitioning strategies, schema evolution, and consumer group management.
- Design and validate API integration patterns such as idempotency, pagination, fault tolerance, and failure isolation mechanisms.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure consistent delivery alignment with architectural vision and governance frameworks.
Requirements
- 8-15+ years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, with strong exposure to advisory or client-facing roles.
- Proven expertise in AWS cloud-native architectures, particularly serverless and event-driven systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with Apache Kafka and distributed streaming architectures.
- Deep understanding of API design principles and large-scale integration patterns.
- Experience in leading technical workshops and producing detailed architecture documentation (HLDs and LLDs).
- Ability to operate effectively in UK timezone working models and distributed global teams.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills with a consultative mindset.
