This role is specific to the Beverage Alcohol Returns Service offering where you will provide a high level of service to taxpayers signed up for the returns service. You should expect to dedicate a portion of your day fielding communication, both internal and external, regarding customer returns service. To succeed, you must be comfortable taking ownership of your customer's overall satisfaction and you must be empathetic to customer needs. Your understanding of the customer's needs will allow them to get the full benefit of Avalara's expertise and software allowing them to self-serve. Compliance is complex, so your ability to set expectations and relay information in an easily understood manner is important; this includes potential escalations where is imperative. You will report to the Manager of Tax & Compliance.
- Prepare, and file multi-jurisdictional sales/use, business and occupation, and gross receipts tax returns for monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual filings
- Manage a select group of customers as their primary contact
- Research and resolve jurisdictional notices on behalf of customers
- Responsible for the onboarding and validation of new sales/use tax returns customers
- Identify and improve automation to serve our customers across a variety of market and tax departments.
- Communicate regularly with customers, jurisdictions and other teams as part of research and resolution
- Perform QA related to sales and use tax content and form changes
- Must have experience of Microsoft Office, including Excel (functions include power pivot, vlookup, hlookup)
- Advanced degree in accounting or finance. Accounting licensure, like CPA, CFA
- Experience with a Big 4 firm, large corporate tax department of a multinational company, or large ERP integration
