Team Lead - Capital Accounting

Location: Global

Function: Global Finance Services (GFS)

Band: 7

Reports To: Senior Manager / Manager - Record to Report

Role Summary

The Team Lead - Capital Accounting is responsible for leading end-to-end fixed asset and project accounting activities, ensuring accurate capitalization, depreciation, reporting, reconciliations, and compliance with accounting policies and standards. The role drives operational excellence through process improvements, automation initiatives, strong internal controls, and effective stakeholder engagement while leading a team of accounting professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Asset & Project Accounting

  • Manage fixed asset accounting lifecycle, including capitalization, transfers, depreciation, impairments, disposals, and retirements.
  • Oversee project accounting activities and ensure timely transition of projects into fixed assets.
  • Ensure compliance with capitalization policies and accounting standards.

Reporting & Reconciliations

  • Deliver accurate and timely CapEx, depreciation, and fixed asset reporting.
  • Perform and review reconciliations between fixed asset sub-ledgers and the General Ledger.
  • Investigate and resolve accounting variances and reporting issues.

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure adherence to accounting policies, SOX controls, and audit requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits and drive remediation of control gaps.
  • Maintain robust governance and risk management practices.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, standardize processes, and enhance controls.
  • Lead automation initiatives and support digital transformation within asset accounting processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement and best practice adoption across the function.

People Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of accounting professionals.
  • Collaborate with Financial Reporting, FP&A, Tax, Compliance, Technology, and Business Finance teams.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and support business objectives.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CA, CMA, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.

Experience

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience.
  • Experience in fixed asset accounting, project accounting, and financial controls.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and fixed asset accounting principles.
  • Understanding of project accounting and capitalization requirements.
  • Experience with depreciation, impairment testing, and asset lifecycle management.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems such as PeopleSoft, SAP, or Oracle.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of SOX and audit compliance requirements.
  • Experience with reporting tools such as Hyperion, Essbase, Power BI, or similar platforms.
