The PYP Tamil Educator is responsible for creating a dynamic, inclusive, and inquiry-based learning environment where students develop strong communication skills, a love for literature, and a deep appreciation for Tamil language and culture. Guided by the IB Primary Years Programme philosophy, the educator will design engaging learning experiences that nurture students as confident communicators, critical thinkers, and reflective learners. Through meaningful inquiry and authentic language experiences, the educator will support students in developing proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while fostering a lifelong appreciation for the Tamil language.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based Tamil language learning experiences aligned with the IB PYP philosophy and school curriculum goals.
• Develop students listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through meaningful and authentic learning experiences.
• Foster a rich language environment that promotes communication, creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression.
• Integrate Approaches to Learning (ATL), Learner Profile attributes, and international mindedness into classroom practice.
• Promote an appreciation for Tamil literature, storytelling, poetry, culture, and traditions.
• Collaborate with homeroom teachers to support transdisciplinary learning and meaningful connections across subject areas.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Design and implement formative and summative assessments aligned with IB PYP assessment practices.
• Provide timely and constructive feedback that encourages reflection, goal setting, and student agency.
• Maintain positive and professional communication with parents regarding student learning and development.
• Engage actively in collaborative planning, professional learning opportunities, and reflective practice.
• Participate in school events, assemblies, exhibitions, and community-building initiatives.
• Contribute to a positive and collaborative school culture by upholding the values of inquiry, respect, and lifelong learning.
Education Requirements:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Tamil, Literature, Languages, Education, or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Training or background in inquiry-based, concept-driven, and student-centered teaching preferred.
Experience Requirements:
• Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in Tamil language education.
Professional fluency in English, with the ability to effectively use English as the medium of instruction when supporting students learning Tamil with varying levels of language proficiency.
• Strong understanding of literacy development and language learning in the primary years.
• Experience in designing engaging reading, writing, speaking, and listening experiences for young learners.
• Ability to differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs and abilities.
• Excellent collaboration, communication, and classroom management skills.
• Experience using educational technology to enhance language and literacy learning is an advantage.
• Passion for nurturing confident communicators, enthusiastic readers, thoughtful writers, and lifelong learners.
