Job Opening: Tea Packaging Manager

Industry: Tea Manufacturing | Location: Siliguri | Salary: 6,30,000 - 6,35,000 per month (gross). Pay structure: fixed monthly base salary plus potential performance-based incentives/bonus. Allowances: may include shift allowance, travel allowance, and overtime pay as applicable under company policy. Statutory benefits (PF, ESI) will be provided where eligible. The salary range is stated as gross; net take-home pay will vary based on applicable taxes and statutory deductions.

Tea Packaging Manager position available. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in tea blends and orthodox tea, with proven experience managing packaging operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily packaging operations and coordinate shifts to meet production schedules; ensure timely completion of packaging targets and report on throughput and on-time completion rates.
  • Operate and supervise packaging machinery; coordinate routine preventive maintenance and work with maintenance teams to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain quality standards for tea blends and orthodox tea during packaging; monitor product weights, sealing integrity, packaging defects and carry out quality-control checks in line with SOPs.
  • Ensure HACCP/GMP practices are followed on the shop floor; support internal and external audits and implement corrective actions from audit findings.
  • Supervise, train, and develop packaging staff; assign responsibilities, monitor performance against KPIs, and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Manage inventory of packaging materials and consumables; maintain accurate records, coordinate with procurement to prevent stockouts, and implement inventory-management best practices to minimize excess stock and waste.
  • Enforce hygiene, safety, and quality-control procedures in the packaging area; ensure compliance with food-safety standards.
  • Track daily and weekly packaging metrics (throughput, yield, defect rates, downtime) and prepare performance reports using MS Excel and production/ERP tools; use data to identify improvement opportunities and lead initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce waste.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Agriculture, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Candidates with a diploma in a related discipline will be considered with additional relevant experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in tea packaging, packaging operations, or FMCG manufacturing, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or team-lead role.
  • Technical knowledge: Strong working knowledge of orthodox tea processing and tea blends, packaging materials, common packaging machinery, and practical experience with quality-control procedures.
  • Certifications: Basic food-safety certification (for example, FSSAI Food Safety Supervisor) or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hiring.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and team-management skills, attention to detail, good problem-solving ability, proficiency with MS Office (especially Excel), and experience using production/ERP tracking tools. Familiarity with inventory-management practices and quality-management systems.
  • Other: Willingness to work in shifts and perform duties on the shop floor as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Advanced diploma or postgraduate qualification in Food Technology, Production Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years in tea-industry packaging or significant experience in FMCG packaging management, including driving productivity and yield improvements.
  • Certifications: HACCP, ISO 22000, GMP, or Lean/Six Sigma (Yellow/Green Belt) are highly desirable.
  • Additional: Prior experience with quality-management systems, audit support, implementation of continuous-improvement projects, and demonstrated inventory-management achievements.
