Job Description

The Core Tax Services Senior Manager is responsible for:

  • Advising BDO USA clients on the tax implications of their business objectives.
  • Evaluating and selecting alternative actions to reduce tax burdens and the cost of compliance.
  • Identifying different methods for complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues.
  • Applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, recognizing and communicating potential risks, and anticipating changes in tax policy.
  • Marketing, networking, and business development within areas of expertise and specialization.
  • Providing written tax advice to clients as needed.
  • Leading and managing business relationships with a focus on delivering high-value tax advice and expanding services to clients.
  • Interacting directly with clients, handling questions, planning, and providing consulting services.
  • Managing the quality of compliance and consulting deliverables.
  • Reviewing research findings and ensuring the accuracy of tax-related documentation.
  • Managing corporate client needs in relation to tax services, with knowledge of separate federal, state, and local tax compliance according to U.S. laws.
  • Staying up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax law.
  • Taking an active role in Tax Leadership meetings and contributing to the growth of the Tax practice.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or other relevant field required.
  • Master's degree in Accounting beneficial, Master's degree in Taxation preferred.
  • EA (Enrolled Agent) or CPA certification required.
  • 14+ years of prior experience in tax services.

Experience and Skills:

  • Leading and managing business relationships, focusing on delivering high-value, quality tax advice.
  • Directly interacting with clients, handling tax-related questions, planning, and consulting.
  • Reviewing and managing compliance and consulting deliverables.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance for corporate clients.
  • Staying current with tax law changes and applying them to client needs.
  • Active participation in Tax Leadership meetings and helping to build the Tax practice.

Software Experience:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience with tax research databases such as BNA and RIA.
  • Familiarity with tax compliance software such as GoFileRoom, GoSystemRS, Caseware, and BNA Depreciation Software.
